This goes for regular reading as well as thephotoreading system. What to look for when reading fiction. If you can answer these questions you can do a book report no worries.

Overview about the book in general
1. What type of story is it? Eg; Adventure, Romance, Fairy Tale, Science Fiction, Mystery etc.
2. What era was it set? Past, Present, Future or even another time or place.

Plot - the story
1. What is the timing of what happing in the story? (what happened first, next, then what?)
2. What do you think were the important events of the story?

Characters - the people in the story
1.Who are the key characters?
2.What personality do they portray? (are they smart, scary, lonely angry etc?)
3.How do you as the reader see them? eg hero, villian, silly, smart?

Setting - the place where the important stuff happens
1.Where is the story set?
1.Can you name the place?
3.Can you name the country?
Eg Space ship, boat at sea, castle, england etc.

Theme - the story behind the story
1.Can you tell what the major theme of the book is about?
2. Can you tell what the minor theme of the book is about?
Eg Religion, Power, Politics, Money, Love tec
Don't sweat on the theme thing... just if you can tell what it is you have excellent comprehension... probably more than you need for a book report.

Did you discover anything interesting about the book that you liked or even something you didn't like? (eg the author used weird word, silly names)

I have a few more questions that you could ask yourself while reading a fiction book but for a book report these will probably be enough.

Anyway... when you start reading a fiction book have a list of those questions close by.

After you read a bit.. by any method see if you can answer any of those questions. Read some more and answer more of the questions.

It doesn't matter what reading method you use. When you can answer those questions you are gaining comprehension of what the book is about. The trick to gaining comprehension is knowing the questions you need to answer before you start reading... then your brain knows what to look for while you read.
