I have the same question.
In some classes, MM is great, but in other classes (math, for example) it is easier for me to use a combination of MMing AND modified outling, depending on the information:
Word/ theme on lefthand sde of paper and Answer on the righthand side or visa vesa depending on how you want to modify outline in a question/answer game or not.
Also you can combine MMing and Modified Outling.
At the college I attended, the professors did both the MMing and Modified Outling.
