You think i just picked up a book and started PhRing w/o any problems? Come on, guys.

practice, layering, practice, layering

Just act like it's nothing more than what it is....a technique. A little here; a little there.

Practice a little at a time until you get it down. Dana, told me to keep turning the pages quickly even though i kept losing the blip page. After---a not long time---the blip page just stabilized itself.

You have to PLAY w/ it in your ATTITUDE. Think thoughts like....6 months from now, i'll be doing really good

Anyone who takes up PhRing for studying for tests in the very near future is asking for pressure and let downs

yes.. hopefully i'll start seeing results after i get the super read and dip part down.

what i want to know is...Do you have to photoread before you superread and dip? And what if you don't have a specific purpose for reading something?

rascal!!!!

Stating a goal or a specific thing you are looking for in the text is the main premis for PhRing success and even success in life.

Yep, you gotta PhR. This is the main technique. I can't understand why you'd want to skip it.

Last night, i did a direct learning PhR w/ 4 books for intuition. The last book was a new book that i've never PhR. Fools Crow. He was an Indian medicine holy man. The room was dark w/ only the light for PhRing being on. I PhR it w/o any preview. Then i flipped the book upside down. Ok? Then from my quiet scene, i stated that i wanted to find 1 things that would help me advance my intuition at THIS time.

Then i just started turning the pages and observing my body. I forget why i stopped, but some body clue made me stop--turn the book right side up---put on my glasses & read. It was about Fools Crow's rituals for connecting himself to Wanka Tanka. I realized that i need to make sure i have my personal rituals down. I do the same similar stuff, BUT, last night i developed my rituals for entering and processing intuition.

One other book that i was PhRing also suddenly caused me to stop & read. I saw a bright blue flash of light. So, naturally, i just stopped. It was a most important piece of information for me.

PhR and clearly know or state or write down what you want.

good luck

Rascalhead,

Do you mean you have to read something but you don't know what you have to get out of it? For school say?

If that is the case turn the trigger words you found into questions or even the chapter titles... just put who, what, why, how, when or where in front. That way you get an idea of what you reading the book for and what information should be in the book.

The photoread step takes 2-3 minutes why would you want to skip that? It is most helpful with the superread and dip phase if you PR'ed the book. You use SR & dip to find the answers to the questions you formed and its a lot faster if your inner mind has already "seen it" and knows where you need to stop to slow down reading so that the answers come to your conscious mind.

Layering is like you found answers to a couple of questions but now you got more questions. SR & dip again answering those questions.

Eg chapter heading... Algebra you ask; 'What is algebra, 'How' might become, "How is algebra used"? So you PRed, SRed and dipped and answered those questions and then you think" How do I write algebra? That becomes your next layer.

Basicly my suggestion is if you don't know where to start or are not sure about your purpose turn the chapter headings into questions and find the answers... starting with what seems most important (for study) or most interesting (curiosity).

Hope that helps.
Alex

Last summer I had tried to learn PR. It didn't work for me...I got no results.
I tried a little throughout the school year, but it didn't bare fruit.

This summer I want to learn it, and I will work on it.

What I need to know is whether or not the book leaves out any details I may be missing. I can't really afford the big tape set at the moment.

One question I have is that in school, for instance, when you have to read a chapter in a history book or something. The teacher may give quizzes on the chapters the next day. If you are to look for a specific type of information, then that would mean you could quite easily miss some important detail that you should have known, though it wasnt in your purpose. So, what do you do if the purpose is to know the information in the chapter (instead of just getting an overview of it)?

A question I have for Margaret: Do you need glasses, or do they just help you read? I mean, I don't see how the brain can even subconsciously take a blurry image of a page and turn it into something legible. (The words also seem to go out of focus...beyond legibility when I see the blip page...not just slightly blurry)

One thing that the book does not really emphasize that I keep seeing people mention here is the quiet scene. It merely says at the end of the process of entering the accelerative learning state:

"Imagine yourself in a beautiful, quiet place. Become aware of the soothing sights, sounds, and feelings you experience there. Imagine that an hour of time is elapsing. Let yourself rest comfortably there for a few moments." (42)

It doesn't say anything about making any decisions or affirming anything there. Is there any point other than calming yourself?

I have many other questions, but I do not remember them. (I haven't practiced PR in a while...got frustrated)

You don't need to wear glasses. Pete wears contacts. But, when he is wearing glasses, he takes them off to PhR. One thing i noticed is that i was very dependent on glasses. It took some practice to get the blip page to be wider w/ my glasses off. So, for me, this was interesting. It told me there was a dependency on my part for my glasses, which, btw, i only need for reading small print. Plus, it also told me that i was not relaxed w/ my glasses off because of the dependency of my thinking to need them on. At this point in time, i generally never use my glasses for PhRing. The reason is because i like the peripheral feeling in my eyes w/o them on.

But, wear your glasses if it makes you more comfortable. I just find them uncomfortable & i like the blurry print. For some reason, it enables me to stay in alpha state easier.

(The words also seem to go out of focus...beyond legibility when I see the blip page...not just slightly blurry) That's fine. You don't need to see them clearly at all. It's something to do w/ the brain anyway.

Yes, the book does speak about the quiet scene and affirming stuff before and after PhRing. It doesn't say it over and over, but it wouldn't b/c it's a book. In the home study course, Paul says it and then he has you doing it all the time for all the different exercises. So, an advantage of the home study course is that you do get repetition you will not find in a book. Different goals for different materials.

Quiet scene or alpha brain wave is vital imho. You want to know the importance of calming yourself. The example T. Buzan and everyone gives is the paper clip. Think about the things you can do w/ a paper clip. Now get into a nice steady alpha bw and you'll find yourself coming up w/ many more uses for that paper clip. We run out of ideas in beta. Alpha is considered the best bw for learning. Everything in learning happens faster and more effortlessly in alpha. Play some baroque music in the background to help you relax into alpha. For me, it's a perception of expansion and relaxation. I physically feel myself opening up to the info i'm PhRing & i welcome it in. Very pleasant and relaxing feeling.

Even books i've not visited in long periods of time have interesting things to say to me. I PhR a couple books the other day that i've not bothered w/ in ages. When PhRing, i suddenly, as the pages were being turned, recalled them and had ideas as i was PhRing. When you get good at it, you can even make decisions as you are PhRing. Like: I can tell there are some important things here for me. Or, this stuff is just not needed. It's very curious.

Good luck. You will be amazed at how much easier it'll be this time around. I'm sure. You'll find yourself understanding what was problematic. For anyone in school or feeling the pressure to learn PhRing--i feel for you I was under no pressure at all & was just having some fun.

A little here and there & you'll soon have it all.

Margaret is spot on. For an interesting experiment, try mind mapping on a topic. First, try waiting for ideas or words to pop into your conscious mind. Then, relax, close your eyes, and "look" for associations to that topic. I'd be amazed if you don't have a much richer experience the second time around. The brain does work primarily in images and many of us tune out that input.

TailetheWise,

The book leaves nothing out.

Work with the book step by step ... when you get stuck... search the forum about what you are stuck on and if that doesn't help post a question.

Relax and play with it is the way to go... adopt an open mind... a beginners mind, be prepared to let go of what you already know and play with each of the steps let them be new. For the record others have managed to learn from the book.

mgrego2 suggestion of mind mapping will help you with situations like quizzes for history. It helps to bring out to conscious awareness the information you have read... whether you use the photoreading method to cover the chapter or not.

As Margaret said originally... you do it in layers... you don't try to get it in one pass like with regular reading... you do multiple shorter passes.

Good luck
Alex

This question wasn't answered:

Are the details just brought out from the subconscious, the activation step merely acting as a catalyst?

T-Wise,
In the book Learn With the Classics, it says that over 75% (i think) of the students who used the technique of asking questions of the material were found to be the same as that of the teacher.

So, ask questions of your material. Then answer them. Chances are you'll be asking the same questions as the teacher.

For the other stuff....I know a guy who is in medical school and he relies on this question which is in the PhRing course: What info is there that i now need to know? Or, What other info do i need on this topic? Is there something else i need to know here?

Questions like that and Super Read & Dip.

This course comes as close as one can get to getting something for free. Say you want to call your friend and you dial the wrong number by only 1 digit. Will you get thru? Will it do you any good to blame the telephone?

PhotoReaing the whole mind system has steps. Learn the steps. PRactice the steps. See and experience the steps working. Become coordinated using those steps like an athlete. Lastly, improvise w/ the whole mind system to suit your needs and abilities.
