I don't have many non-novel books around my house, but I like to read novels anyway, so that's okay.

The PR book said that the best way to go is Preview, PR, and Rapid Read.

I PRed a book, and then started to read it. I noticed no difference between that experience and reading a novel w/o PRing.

I have come to a question: Is rapid reading in itself any different from regular reading? The book said that it had two differences: 1) it comes after PRing, 2) it's speed is flexible

Difference #1 is just a chronological difference but does not point out the differences between the methods. Difference #2 isn't really a difference at all, because I am always reading, re-reading, reading slower, reading faster, etc. when regular reading.

I have trouble regular reading as it is. That's one reason I got interesting in PRing. I tend to mental sound out the words, and if I try to speed up and just comprehend without hearing, I get no comprehension. Then I go back and reread the same way, over and over again, until I give up and just read the slow way.

Any responses?

I am not qualified to offer any advice, but what do successful photoreaders think about speedreading priciples applied to rapid reading? Since I learned to speed read first I thought of rapid reading as speed reading without trying to break any speed barriers. That is, visual vertial reading vs linear subvocal and trusting yourself that you do not need to reread sections.

I have heard mentions of a rapid reading book. Does this offer advice similar to speed reading, or does it have some other method not revealed in the photoreading course?

Rapid reading is basicly reading faster similar to speed reading but personally flexible... some parts you'll fly though and other parts you slow down for.

T. Intially you many not notice any great difference,,, call it the learning curve. Rapid reading is usually faster than your normal reading speed... you might be slowing down trying for enjoyments sake and that OK.

Play with it.. you'll find your regular speed increasing and even emails will be a breeze to read.

Rapid reading is definitely similiar to speed reading. But - the main difference is its place in the system. Never do it until you've done all of the previous steps.

Sometimes, you can just do photofocus/then rapid read on things like these BBS topics. However, on books and other long texts, never ever do rapid reading unless you've done all of the other steps, and can't quite place what else you want from the book.

At a time when you say, "I don't know what else I want to know, I just want to know more," that's the sign for rapid reading.
