Youngprer, you are right about the confidence. My brothers problem is they feel inferior to me
I sure don't see them that way but whenever topics about learning come up they don't like to know it from me. A few years ago my brother studied a new career to be an aircon mechanic. Had to write an essay report type thing and asked me how to do it. Told him how to go about it... drew him a mindmap to keep him focused on answering the question and left him to it. Typed it up for him (I had access to a computer at work)and added the drawings and illustrations he wanted where he wanted them. He scored 9 out of 10, his teacher said if he did any better than that you would have gone overboard and not impressed the teacher.
You know the sad part?... he came home and said to me.... "guess how much "we" got on "our" assignment?" I didn write it as far as I was concerned I never had anything to do with it.
Sometimes it has to be someone else who teaches them.
I agree that my ploy sounds cheesey and sometimes it works like reverse psychology... don't sell them on it... don't defend it... keep it out of their way and they get curious and when curious they are usually a little more open and willing to try it and see.
