I use a rubber finger on my index and a rubber thumb. That stops quite a few problems. Paul's method of fixing the spine solves a few more. Another thing is to go through the book in a sort of trial run, flipping the pages but not PRing them, just to get a feel for going through the pages at a PR speed to get your hands warmed up.
If pages stick I simply start flipping backwards a few pages until I recognize a familiar pattern through the blip, and go forward from there. eg. p 68, 74 (stick), I go back 72, 70, 68, 70, recognize 70's overall pattern, affirm it, 72, affirm, 74, affirm, etc. That way I'm into the text instead of worrying over techniques.
