I have recently received the PR Course and I'm going insane. Let me be honest; I think my high skepticism is getting in the way. It appears (on the tapes) that Paul is attempting to help me into a "other-than-conscious" state and this is the state I need to remain in while PRing. This is where the problems surface. Or maybe I'm just following the tape incorrectly? I really need help! I ordered this course highly skepical hoping that the results of the course would look at my doubts straight in the face. Another thing is Paul tells you to let your inner mind and conscious mind interact and communicate; um...how in the world do I do that?! I would think that this is something that just happens and have very little control over. Anyway I guess this is enough typing for you guys to view. I just want to be able to read really fast! I really don't care about inner peace and all (I already have it and I didn't have to achieve it through some sort of hypnosis). Your help is much appreciated!

Wavefornoreason,

I believe many PR's will admit that the beginning for just about 'anyone' can be challenging.

We've all been 'conditioned' by our great educational system to learn/read in a certain manner. This has no doubtly gone on for years.

You now introduce a 'new' system, Phototreading and your body/mind goes. Whoa! What a second. You can't teach this old dog new tricks! The truth of the matter is that you CAN teach yourself a new manner of reading/learning ... it takes time.

I believe 'skepticism' stems from not seeing 'results' immediately. Some do, some don't ... patience is the key to unlocking your true success witht the system.

I believe Paul is conveying that you can suggest to you conscious and other than conscious that it is 'ok' to interact with one another. Your thoughts (pre/post suggestions) are the dicatator to your mind and body.

My suggestion as it has always been it to go throught the courseware/book at least twice. Visit here often and post as many questions as you think are necessary to make you feel comfortable. You'll find that through your 'inter-action' that the system will take you to a higher level of understanding.

Patience, practice, time and trust are only the beginning ingredients ... the rest will unfold, in due time. Promise.

Love Light and Laughter,

Michael

Thanks for your help Michael! It just seems that it is going to be difficult entering a "other-than-conscious" state when I just can't help but listen to his voice consciously. I hope I'm wording this right. It's like I'm just listening to a tape not entering any kind of state... Make sense? I know this seems funny but I forced myself to take a scolding hot shower and see if that would help. But I just ended up falling alseep. Again thank you so much for your help and I will continue to practice!

when he is instructing you on certain things, he isnt trying to have you enter any kind of state, but when it comes to the tests and photoreading sessions, just relax and follow his instructions. you're supposed to let go of any doubts or problems and relax deeply. when your concious mind and inner mind connect, its just like asking yourself a question and waiting for your mind to reply, or for you to realize the answer. you have to relax for it to work, otherwise your concious mind will just say "the answer isnt here, give up". but when you relax and wait for the answer, if you have the answer from photoreading, it will reply with the right answer. just go along with the program and try not to doubt so much. you're holding yourself back. good luck with the program!

I'm sort of in the same bind as you myself but I've decided to suspend disbelief and not let doubt interfere with my own PR process. By doing so, I've allowed many positive things to happen that might not if I'd spent time looking for more 'concrete' results.

Overanalyzing PR is pointless because PR is an experiential idea, not a mental one. It only makes sense when you do it. Doubting the process only hinders you; it's like trying to run and sit at the same time.

It feels like your analytical brain isn't in control. But that's the point. It's not supposed to be. And that's a good thing because the creative brain is where all the best ideas come from.

Give yourself a chance to grow into the system by suspending doubt and staying neutral to the process. Creative thought is nebulous and mysterious and you're ahead of the scientific curve as nobody really knows where creativity comes from yet. Until science catches up to mind research, you'll have to take it on faith and accept the results you get. And if the results are still not forthcoming, then redefine for yourself what you hope to get out of the system. PR is about choices and you have to choose which direction you want to go in.

By doing this, you're making different types of 'concrete' results using the system, and far from your subconscious mind controlling your analytical brain, you're increasing your own mental control as you make your conscious choices more precise and less vague, and use the whole brain in the decision making process to generate and organize your ideas.

wavefornoreason,

The other than conscious state doesn't really feel that much different than a normal state because it is a normal state. You've experienced it many times in you life already. There are no bell and whistles to tell you this is it. The fact that you fell asleep indicates that you went right through the accelerative learning state. The idea is to relax and just go with the flow. The closest most beginners come to recognising the ideal learning state is that its a relaxed feeling similar to just about getting ready to fall asleep. Some even find that they are better able to learn the accelerative learning state when they are feeling a little tired because the brain is firing the appropriate alpha/theta wave pattern naturally then.

If you close your eyes, you start firing the appropriate accelerative learning state at that point, follow Pauls instructions and yes, you have the accelerative learning state... and it gets deeper and better every time.

Re-read page 17 of the PR book where it says what you have to give up. As a skeptic you realise you are building some strong barricades for yourself.

To make it easier make sure you're using the memory supercharger tape every night for a week... that tape also helps you get into an accelerative learning state . Experience becomes the best teacher, especially with something that feels so subtle.

Alex

Actually, the mere fact that you can hear his voice does not mean you are listening to it "consciously". If you are relaxed, you may very well be in the correct "state of mind" even if you can hear Paul's voice.

Back in high school, my friends and I experimented a bit with hypnosis -- and the thing they always commented on was how they could hear my voice all along (even when they were very clearly hypnotised). However, this was very obvously not "conscious" hearing, though it was just as clear...does that make sense?

One of, ONE of my problems is the same as Mr. Wave's problems. This state of relaxation is so hard for me to achieve. How do I let go? Do I just say "I am going to let you go" in my mind? If there are no signs to let me know that I am in the accelerated learning state, how do I know if I am in that state at all? Also, how do I know I photoread a book correctly?

I will cover the 3-2-1 method and the countdown method for getting into the state.

The 3-2-1 method

1)Sit in a comfortable chair or lie down in bed, just be totally comfortable.
2)Close you eyes, take in a deep breath and as you release visualize and repeat '3' three times.
3)Breath deep again, as you let the breath out, see and repeat '2' three times.
4)One last time, take in a deep breath. As you release this breath, view and repeat '1' three times. You are now in the photoreading state, you can go deeper as I will cover next.
5) Use the comming out method waaay below.

Going Deeper

You are in the accelerated learning state, keeping your eyes closed tell your self that you will count from 10 to 1 at each number you will go into a deeper, more relaxed state.
*NOTE* Keep your breathing deep and relaxed. Dont hold a breath in if you forget what to say, just continue on the next breath.

Countdown Method

1) Sit or lie down in a comfortable position. Close your eyes.
2) Start at the number 100 and begin counting backwards, visualize the number and tell yourself that at each decending number you will go deeper into the accelerated learning state.
3) By the time you get to one you will be totally into the accelerated learning state, tell yourself this many times as you are counting down. If you get to one and you do not feel like you are all the way there, try the going deeper technique spelled out above. After you use this method many times you may decrease the number to 50, 25, 10, or 3 like above.
4) Use the comming out method, below.

Comming out -- recomended, not stated in book (I dont think)

1) Tell yourself that you will count from 1 to 5, at each level you will come out of the state alittle more. On the count of five you will open your eyes, feeling refreshed and better than before, ready to face whatever comes at you.
2) Start counting up, dont rush!!! After the count of 3 restate this comming out affirmation.
3) On the count of 5 open your eyes, you will feel refreshed and ready to go.

These methods will always work if you give them to practice, effort, and time they deserve. These methods are better defined in the Silva Method tapes, classes and books.

As you are in these states, before you come out, you can give yourself certain affirmations to effect your life.
1) "Everyday, in every way, I am getting better and better." (Used in Silva Tapes)
2)For low self-esteem ~~ "I am an increadible person, people look up to me and I can do anything I put my mind too. I feel pride for everything I do."

You can create affirmations for any situation (stop smoking, etc...) as long as you realize one thing, You should only use positive words. NEVER EVER use negative words such as Never, Dont, Cant, these will have the same effect on you as they are described, NEGATIVE.

"Good Bye Kids" -- Clarabell, the final Howdy Duddy Show.

Wave,

You don't have to be in other than conscious state when PRing. You can be fully conscious, no problem. All that is required, you relax your body, and your eyes. That's all. Mastermind has above explained two methods to do this.

Good indicators of the right PR state ar the blip page, peripheral vision widening, slow breathing (not too slow!), shoulders moving a bit downwards, self-talk (mind chatter) quieting down, a sort of calm feeling... etc.

Maybe you don't notice yoy going to the right PR "state" is because you are not yet accustomed to notice it? It's nothing fancy, you may be several times a day in that precise state naturally!! Actually, I think that being in the this relaxed state is essential for everybody's well-being, otherwise you tend to get nervous and stressed... But, Good luck! -purjo
