Pi memorization has become a competitive contest among my friends. Two of them have gotten around 50 digits or so, which is pretty impressive (using no special technique), but I would LOVE to see the look on their faces as I recited 500 digits.
My question is: when you memorized 500 digits of pi, how quickly were you able to recite them? I checked out the psuedonumerology website, and learned the basics of the system. Though it seems that anytime I want to recall a number using a phrase, it takes an uncomfortable amount of time to do so. (OK...My=3, um..Love=5...8..,Stirs=0..1....4..0). It just takes too long figuring it out in my head. It would be pretty lame to sit there for hours sputtering a number every few seconds, when my friends can go "3.14159..." , rattling digits off at an auctioneer's pace.
Perhaps I just need more practice.
