I had hoped that someone else might have picked this up however 1200 pages turning approx 1 page every 2 second would have taken you about 20 minutes to go through that book. Perhaps you were trying too hard?
For "the definition of the words" you might find that you know them instinctively not realising that you didn't really know them before. If you want to parrot back the definition 'as written' in the dictionary then you would PR repeatedly with the specific intent of doing that... And that takes time probably PRing the book for 1 week to a month. Depending also on you level of belief that you yourself can do it, how exact you want to be etc, it could take a longer or shorter period of time. Intitially thinking of the word and guessing the location playing with it that way opens up the mind. In much the same way as a marathon runner started running short distances and built upon them as the stamina builds. If you do take on that goal I suggest that you PR the book in 2 halves giving yourself a break between session. And drink plenty of water (seriously).
Seeing that I PRed the dictionary that came with the course only once I've noticed something interesting. From time to time I do check my spelling and grab a dictionary from my desk... (because of it compact size and it amuses me 
because so many common words are missing from it) I have that dictionary on my desk. I know immediately whether or *not* to look in that book for the word I'm thinking of. The word instinctively was not in the book but that's ok I thought cause instinct is and that serves my purpose . (I was right)
