If you really want to learn it the right way, let it soak overnight. Once you get a little success with it, bump it up to 20 minutes, then after you have consistent success drop incubation altogether.
But if you're just starting out, take the necessary pauses. Try not to get too excited either; just stay relaxed but alert.
When I started out, a huge bump in the road I had was as soon as I got some good activation going, I'd mentally say, "This is GREAT! It's WORKING!" but then I'd lose my flow, drop all focus, and not get enough out of it. Once you do it a lot, however, it just kinda becomes "normal", and that's when your success rate jumps up again.
Of course, once your success rate jumps up you get all excited again, so there's a couple bumps until you level off 
Slow and steady wins the race. Once you have the foundation, go at "hare" speed and PR your books like a mofo.
