Okay, I just prepared, previewed, and photoread the book "The Grapes of Wrath" by John Steinback. It is required summer reading for my English AP class that starts Monday. This is my first book to ever follow the process on, I hope I didn't make a bad decision by selecting a book that is almost 620 pages in length.

I did experience some trouble while photoreading this... My eyes began to burn a lot, and I was for some reason not seeing much of a blip page (actually a very thin blip if at all). It seems that when I try to see the blip page, I can see it for a little while before it starts to move and the text on both pages seem to clash together. I hope this is ok.

Anyways, I am going to activate this tommorow(actually today, but it's 1:23am), and I just want to make sure everything was okay and there's nothing else I should do before activating tommorow.

I have seen Dana Hanson mention to formulate questions with your trigger words. I wrote down 29 trigger words for this book, but I haven't read anything about formulating questions consciously, I thought that that my nonconscious mind would formulate questions about it by itself.

Remember to do your activation in layers. A book that size being 600+ pages you will need to allow yourself 7 to 10 activation session and perhaps a rapid read. Even if I intended to rapid read a novel .. for a book report or school assignment I would still do a couple of inital activation session.

For questions you need to know what you require from the book what do you need to know about the book. For example you might say (probably would expect) to know who the key characters are, where the story takes place and stuff like that.

For burning eyes I suggest you modify you chant a bit and say 1 2 blink 4. It seems to me you are forcing the photofocus and not allowing yourself to blink freely. If the blip page disappears fine... let it go and use the imaginary x technique with a soft focus. In fact you might try that instead... and let your eyes relax.

Do you think maybe I should re-photoread the book then?

I just realized that when trying to go into photofocus the other way my eyes almost automatically try and go to the blip method. I have had the book for a while and read it and let it turn over in my mind. Ever since I have been photofocusing on everything just for practice, so it's very automatic to me now :/.

It ok that you photofocus on the book and get the blip page... just remind yourself to blink .. is sounds like you almost stare without looking. It even happens to people using computers for some time... we get our head locked into a certain position and just forget to blink. Just make sure you use the chant and add replace some words with the word blink, just to remind yourself to do it. Use the tangerine technique to help you concentrate and stay relax too.

As for photoreading the book again, yes you could do that... 20 minutes before you activate it. I have no doubt that most of it went into you inner mind ok so you wouldn't need to wait overnight again. The photoreading it again would be optional.

Remember, you keep making small adjustments to the method till you got it working right for you. It's a little like the guy who lost his beret in the cow paddock... that's not it, that's not it... that's not it...

Er, yes I have had a strange sort of day

I am always on the hunt for good mind probing questions When I start to activate a book I use the questions on page 57 to get me started .

1. What is important to me in this book?
2. What is in here that can help me?
3. What do I need to know to perform well on my next test (to write my report, contribute in the next meeting...etc)

Anybody have any other questions that the like to use ?

Okay, I thought today, after photoreading upside down yesterday, (and if you havent been following along, the day before right side up) I should be able to go through the book pretty well with SuperReading and Dipping. Somehow I don't think I am doing this correctly. I seem to read 90% of the time, because I am afraid to miss a small detail that might be on a test. I find myself just normally reading most of the time except when there are long descriptions of the wind and such. Is there a more atuned set of steps for literature that I can use?

Don't worry I started out with the same feelings but after a while your confidence will increase. (it takes awhile to learn to trust your inner mind)MHO

REMEMBER YOU WILL STILL HAVE TO STUDY FOR TESTS.

Why don't you tell us the details of how you were SR and dipping in

I guess I wasn't very organized about it. Before opening the book I asked myself, "What do I need to know for my test on this book?" Then i opened it up to the first page and looked around but I didn't really get the feelings that something was attracting me to certain portions of the text. I turned the pages and just didn't get any feelings. So, instead, I just started reading the parts where it seemed there were no descriptions. Then I came up with the idea to find out what each of my trigger words are (they were mostly character names and places). I started to do that and then I kinda got into the book and started reading. I basically read everything because everything seemed to be a candidate for a test question.

For novels you may find that that is the way to go... If you want to use the 30 minute activation sessions I suggest you have yourself some well formed questions suitable for novels.

To answer questions for activation in 30 minute activation session, assuming you just want to get the book read and know what you need to know, it pays to be focused on what you need to know from the book. Otherwise the method of photoreading then rapid reading is one normally used for novels.

I had written some guidelines for asking questions for activation that are useful for novels (if you want to avoid rapid reading and just activate the book using SR and Dip) and included some info for forming questions for non-fiction. If you would like me to email it to you just drop me an email. ((click the sunnies/shades for my email address). It's 4 pages long and a tad too much to post.
