In the book PR, Paul talks about developing peripheral vision, that is you try to read something without looking at it directly. I am really unable to do this despite practising for a long time. Are there some techniques involved in developing peripheral vision?

Here's an interesting way you can experiment to increase your peripheral vision. Since peripheral vision is noticing things that are off to the sides. Useful in sport where you just notice a teammate as you're about to be tackled.

Try watching TV with your head turned to one side and see if you can still follow the action. Remember to change sides. As your vision expands you'll notice yourself turning your head further.

Also notice how much you can see off the sides when you're walking or driving while keeping your eyes front.
