I've read many of the postings in this forum.

I've read some responses that say the paraliminals use some sort of hypnosis.

As a Christian I believe that God wants us to develop all of the gifts he has given us including our brain and mind.

I'm wondering if the techniques used in the Paraliminal tapes go over the edge and give up too much influence to someone other than God?

Are there Christians who are more knowledgable than me who have worked through the rationale of incorporating the use of Paraliminal tapes with their faith in God that would be willing to share it with me?

tedrod,

The way I look at this whole thing is that God loaned us the physical body to use while on this planet. He has also given us alot of tools for our use (including NLP). Good or evil depends on how those tools are used.

Our lives are nothing but thoughts. Before you can do anything, no matter how simple or complex, it has to be preceeded by thoughts. If you don't like the quality of an action, you have to change the quality of your thoughts first. With NLP you are able to do this comparitively easily. Just choose an area of your life in which you you want to improve, and change your behaviour by changing your thought processes.

Most of the thoughts you are trying to change are deep seated and usually located in your subconscious (or other-than-conscious) mind. These are usually difficult to change through your conscious mind. NLP allows you to access these thoughts easily to allow for rapid changes. I see nothing wrong with this if used in a positive manner.

As with everything in your life, you are always in control of everything through the choices you make. If you are unhappy with the results of what you are trying to do you have to change your thoughts for the better first.
The only catch is that you have to give some effort to the whole process and use NOPS to get where you want to go.

I think it's wonderful to be able to easily change the deep seated programming of my thoughts in order to improve any area of my life i want to. What a wonderful gift!!!

Sincerely,
Gregory

I don't remember any biblical restrain to develop our minds. I remember things about witchcraft, divination, talking to dead people and that kind of things, but there is no restriction on using technology for mind development at the extend of my knowledge (if you want my opinion, not all what most christians believe to be evil is indeed evil. Telepathy isn't evil, it is a human skill that very few of us do, [I don't have developed it]; Jesus Himself read his companions minds, that's very clear). I believe that God want us to develop to our full potential, He made us that way. Do you remember Genesis?
quote:
Genesis 1:26 Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground."
God created us in His image, and how is Him? So, is it unbelievable that we can have great skills? Remember the huge task that God gave Adam to do? Naming all that animals. That's huge, and he did it. He was a man with great skills. We can too! And I seems to me that God wants us to do it, by technology or otherwise. My opinion.

As I read many of the post in the previous forums I had questions as well about the nature of the "technologies" I've yet to try any of them but the 2 comments previous to this one seem a bit shakey. Jesus rose the dead as well as read minds he was/is God in the flesh. No one else in the bible read minds except as they where under the power of an outside force, namley the holy spirit. I agree that the mind probably has vastly more capacity for memory, speed and intuitive cognisence. However compare those things carefully with powers/knowledge that the bible clearly states ethier comes from God and his reps or (dare I say it) Satan and his reps.
Don't write this off,
peace in Jesus

I really don't want to debate, but I have to say this. The Bible states that Jesus is the example to follow and, up to my knowledge, there is no place in the Bible where it say that there are some things that Jesus did that we cannot do; all to the contrary, it says that we'll able to do all what he did.
quote:
John 14:12
I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.

You may argue that this words relates to the Holy Spirit work on us and you're right. But then, I have to ask where it is written in the Bible that we cannot even try some of the things that Jesus did. Please, in this subject, I want to see proof, this matter is saturated of mere opinions. Quote the Bible if you have biblical evidence to back up your comments. Also, if there is biblical evidence that telepathy is indeed evil, show it. This subject is generally subject to so much ideas that stand just for opinions that I haven't heard any hard evidence about this. Tell me that sorcery is evil and I will believe you, because the Bible says so. Tell me that divination is evil and I will believe you, because the Bible says so. But tell me that telepathy is evil and I'll say: "show me the evidence, where in the Bible is written that it is evil. Maybe you may derive an answer from things that don't mean telepathy (you may say that telepathy is divination or something like that). I just don't buy that kind of Bible twisting. So, do you have any valid evidence?

Yet, due to the ambiguous nature of the writing in the Bible, you can prove it says almost anything. TV evangelists have been doing it for years. However, no matter what the Bible says, it was written by humans, and therefore is not absolutely infallible. And what about the many books that didn't make it into the Bible? And what about other religions besides Christianity? Are they wrong if they contradict something in the Bible? And what if we not worry about what the Bible says and ask God ourselves? God must know what the correct answer is. Maybe there is no correct answer.

Feel free to stone me for questioning church scripture.

God helps those who help themselves. I believe by develping yourself physically, mentally and spiritually, either by NLP or by metaphysical phenomena, we would be in a better position to serve the Lord.

Now where in the Bible does it say "God helps those who help themselves"? Is that next to "A penny saved is a penny earned"?

That is a common misconception. Many misinterpret the Bible because they interpret what they want to see without sticking to what it says or taking a few verses out of their respective contexts giving them meanings that they don't have. If you knew what I know about the Bible, you may have to burst in admiration about how extraordinary a book it is. But explaining it to someone predisposed against it, may be almost impossible; so I won't bother.

The problem that you will run into when questioning the Bible is that those who believe most deeply in it are working with the assumption that it is not only divinely inspired, but is actually the word of God and is historically accurate. I work with several such people and their beliefs are that the Bible is the exact word of God, is completely internally consistent, lays out a plan for exactly how life should be lived and that any other religion's holy writ is not true, and is not even divinely inspired (e.g., the Upanishads are not of a divine origin).

It does no good to get into a ****ing contest in such issues because the funadamental argument comes down to "I believe in X" versus "I do not believe in X" - there is no winning in such a case and you will not sway people to your belief system.
