We can and do use image steaming to activate a book. It's a personal thing not all of us like image streaming for one thing. Nor is it necessarily the best method for activating a book. Really the manual activation techniques are the way to go until you find what works best for you.
Image streams tend to speak in metaphors which for some books is not a clear enough answer. And in some cases where an image stream sponaneously activates a book we don't realise that is what happened until we intrepret the image stream.
On the whole image streaming is useful for understanding your inner minds messages to the conscious mind better. If you practice image streaming you'll find yourself noticing more, solving more problems finding alternative ways of doing things. With this connection you tend to know when your body/mind is signaling you to look at a certain point in the book when activating.
