Don't worry about turning clumps of pages together. Just continue to keep the state,chant, and page turning. Say that you missed quite a many pages when you started with the book upside down, when you turn the book right side up, the pages that you missed you will get them. Now you've missed different pages this time around with the book right side up. When you turn the book upside down again, you will pick up the pages that you missed previously when the book was right side up. Each time you go through another pass with the book, you will pick up missed pages. After three or four passes, I then fan the pages of the book (photoflipping as some call it) to pick up additional info that was still missed. I hope this will help with your page turning dilemma.
