Hello,
The reason I am learning photo reading is because I have been a very slow reader all my life. I believe I am an "audible learner" because I comprehend much better if I actually say the words in my mind as I read. This requires me to read every word.

Question: Which technique is better for Activation? Skittering or super reading and dipping?

Is there anyone else out there who also has/had the same reading challenges and overcame them?

Thank you.

Hi, I did an experiment that might interest you. It covered some similar challenges that you face. My reading speed was super slow and comprehension poor. I had to subvocalise when I read the material regularly and even during superreading and dipping. I think the result of that test/experiment and insight to the method might be of interest to you.
Heres the link. http://www.learningstrategies.com/forum/ubb/Forum8/HTML/002346.html

Actually they are both required for activation... superreading is reading at a speed to fast to actually comprehend every word you see. Skittering is just one method of superreading where you are searching for information that attracts your attention for dipping. The straighforward method of scanning down the middle of the page is one style of superreading and skittering (were you devise your own method of searching the page) is another way of superreading. Personally I use the skittering method. It moved me right away from attempting to read every word on the page.

AlexK,

Have you gotten rid of the inner voice? Subvocalisation as you called it? I seem to feel it slowly going away the more I PR.

Thanks for your help.

Not entirely and I don't need to, I've found a fantastic benefit for me personally about having an inner voice or subvocalising. My reading speed has increased with Photoreading anyway. I actually 'slow myself down' to read a novel in about 2 hours to let it unfold like a good movie instead of spending something like 10 hours on it as I did in the past.

Superreading and dipping you find you drop subvocalisation because you are going too fast. Rapid reading I still occasionaly subvocalise passages or words here and there. I notice on the whole that familiar words get dropped and words that are more important to the significance of the book I subvocalise. I find this seems to help me with my comprehension and memory of significant points in the text.

In any case there is no need to worry about subvocalising just learning the Photoreading System will help you to improve your reading and comprehension speeds. You may still subvocalise and that will be ok because that's how it works for you.
