I bought and read "PhotoReading" (the book) three weeks ago, read the book right away, then photoread a book. I haven't done anythign since.

I'm not to crazy, or clear, about "activation". I'm wondering how to best use this system? Can I just photread, like, ten books and actually read one of them using my normal method? Would that, and counting on spontaneous activation, be effective?

Also, is the program, either the whole system on tape or the seminar, a better way to learn than just practicing for the instructions given in the book?

The best way to use the system is to get manual activation working for you so that you have the benefit of being able to gain your normal comprehension of a book in 1/3 the time it takes you to regular read it.

In the long run your method would work on a few books however you would always be hoping for spontaneous activation and still wind up regular reading books that you really want to be sure you got information out of. The whole point of photoreading is to spend less time 'reading' and still gaining just as much or better comprehension of the text consciously.

Spontaneous activation could take months to achieve by this route. Practicing manual activation is the faster way to achieve spontaneous activation. You'll notice it while you are activating a book that you already 'know' a lot of what is there.

The tapes and course will guide you to do the manual activation it still comes down to actually doing it.

Since you say you are not clear about activation do a search of the forum you'll find quite a few tips and ideas to help you in that area.

I conducted an experiement and gave a report of what I did to photoread a book and my activation experience. You can have a look at it here. It will give you an idea of what activation is about.

Thank you, Alex.

I've read through many of these posts. I guess I'm just looking for an alternative way to do it, rather than speed reading and dipping. I asked in another post if listening to a cd of a non-fiction book after photoreading would be an effective means to activate. And, I'm intrigued by journaling as a means to activate since I journal every morning anyway.

One other thing. I've got a couple of ideas for a test of the system. I play chess regularly online and I'm stuck at a particular ranking. Now, if I photoread a gang of chess books and then play, I should start to have some spontaneous activation. Perhaps I could see an improvement in my rank. What do you think?
