Youngprer, just hang in there & time will befriend you. How often is that tutor at your home? Isn't it funny. Here you say you'd be doing better w/o her & your father is in the dark. That's one frustrating situation.

So sob is sob and not sol---ok

3 hours per week. So...2/5 days of the week, I have to sit for an hour and a half, falling asleep - listening to her. Yeah, "IT'S A DRAG" as she says...about EVERYTHING. Then when I tell her that's not how I think about things, she doesn't believe me 'cause I'm just like all the other teenagers she's "taught."

Anywho...I've been low on sleep lately, so...I guess I'll be tryin' to get some here. *Yawn.*

Time had better "befriend" me. It's been throwing me into flames for around 4 years. Things have only gotten worse. This year, things are a tiny bit better, and will probably get a little bit better even more so. Then again, it's worse in some ways, too. As far as things getting better from time...I believe it.

In fact, I've got a very huge master plan, that will definitely prove everyone wrong around me who believed, "he's never going to amount to anything."

A lot of kids ask me, "Why don't you ever try to make friends?" I never really answer them, but it's because I can't stand 'em. Most of them are just...ugh....stupid. (I'm not trying to sound like some know-it-all dork, it's just how I feel.)

I have an army of friends, just not anywhere for hundreds of miles, that's all. Around here...I have about 3-4. They're the same guys I've been practically living with for around 3-4 years now, and they're like my brothers. As I've grown and evolved, so have they. I'm looking foward to getting highschool over with.

It's a real shame that I won't be my best until around 6-8 years after highschool, too....because no one will likely be around to see it.

My anger and frustration - staying up all night, trying to fight fights that I made for myself...all of that lead to this gift. These past few years, trying to come out of this dark slump, it's been an amazing journey. I'm almost completely out, too. Maybe the year I'm planning to take off after highschool I'll be able to finish that book I began writing about my life and thoughts through the first 13 years of my life or so.

If ya want, I could send ya what I have so far. Just don't be expecting the way I am now to be in what I was 3 years ago. (Of course, as you're thinking.)

Youngprer,
Sure, i'd find it interesting because you really speak your mind. Just ask Dana for my email address and send it out.

Usually the kids who had a tough time in h.s. enjoy college more. And, if you take a yr. off after h.s., you might get refreshed and more relaxed.

It's such a shame that parents don't surround their children w/ POSITIVE feedback and environment. I understand your frustration. I once had a teacher tell me i'd "end up in the gutter." How nice was that. And, even after all these years, i have not reversed my thinking on it: She didn't like the fact that i disagreed w/ her philosophy. I was never disrespectful, except i did fall asleep in one of her classes.

So, you just build your own SELF ESTEEM. You have a terrific start w/ Learning Strategies stuff and people there to help you. Don't forget'em when you grow up

Yes, would love to read it.

"he's never going to amount to anything."

Can't believe anyone thinks that of you. Well, you have plenty of friends here who think very highly of your capabilities and potential. Keep it up.

Youngprer, please don't take what I'm about to say as critism. It's meant to help. Although I don't have the answers, I think I'm a pretty good observer and have learned a few things with my years.

My oberservation from your big post is the no friends comment and the "things will be better when" type comment.

For emotional balance, all anyone needs is one friend. However, it must be a good friend. One you can share EVERYTHING about yourself with and be accepted. They don't have to agree with everything or even like everything, but they accept it as part of you and are your friend. A few friend like this is even better. A hundred chums, but no good friends is unhealthy.

The looking to the future is a common psychological trait. The idea of a positive destiny is very good. The problem is thinking that the future will be problem free. I think the difference in the two states can be seen in a person's attitude about NOW.

For both of these issues I would recommend PR and direct learning several books on personal communication, motivation, basic psychology and other like minded material.

I hate to every say anyone is stupid. I prefer a more charitable "They haven't been fortunate enough to travel a path that has gifted them with the full enlightenment they are capable of achieving". Gee that sounds sickly sweet. I more commonly substitute ignorance for stupidity, and ignorance is readily curable. Unfortunately it does require them to want the cure.

Sorry, I sort of ranted their. I don't know your situation, and if I did I doubt I would know how to improve it. However, my comments about are meant to gesture to help you achieve greater happiness.

Hehe. Yes, I'm 14.

I'm not quite a huge fan on "self-help" books, for a number of reasons. For one thing, I'm a very within-myself kind of person. I don't often think about the world too much, because I spend most of my life thinking about wisdom, what matters & what doesn't, and no matter how simple the subject may appear to be:the difference between right and wrong.

Most of these self help books that I've seen go by statistics, and certain pscyhological "formulas" for certain situations. Others do give good advice, but nothing I couldn't ever figure out on my own. Whenever I read that stuff or hear from my parents that they've discovered this great thing from one of these books, I look to them like they're crazy and say, "That's common sense!"

And yes, yes, I know "ignorance" is the better word. And yes yes - it is true that they "have not traveled down a path that has enlightened them to a greater level of their possible achievement," but when you're ****ed off because they don't think that particular statement about you:you don't think quite as clearly.

I will never forget LSC. They are...the best guys I've ever seen in the subject of education and learning. They were half of a whole new understanding of mine that said, "Oh my God. I'm not wrong. Most of these people out here don't know what they're doing!!" It was like someone had turned on the light, and made me realize I was touching something horrible, that wanted me to believe it wasn't.

As for my self esteem...it's not very high...well....I don't know about that. I'd say I don't really feel confident to OTHERS, where as all of my confidence is set within myself. I believe I can do anything, but when I started having to rely on people, or start wanting to reach out to them:then things become more complex.

For one thing - I'm not going to be what most would call "good-looking" until I'm out of highschool. Until then, my crooked teeth, and pale skin will haunt me. I wouldn't say I'm HORRIBLE looking, but...there's not many who I know who would say, "You look good." =\ As far as that goes, I may or may not look as bad as I think. Like I said, I'm very within myself.

I haven't had a girlfriend in around a year, and haven't had the confidence to go and try to get some of the new ones that come along. Besides that - I'm STILL having trouble getting over my exgirlfriend...I really loved her, and we just misunderstood each other way too much.

And yes, around here on this board, I guess I probably look pretty well off, and I do - but no one around school believes that. The few who have taken the chance of getting to know "that weirdo who doesn't seem to want any friends" have really been shocked. They've said all sorts of things like, "I thought you were just a no body, I had no idea you were so...full." That's something along the lines of what my best friend Kyle said.

Now, the few people who know me are always around whenever people are saying, "You're such a dumb ass." It's hilarious to me when some people who don't know me quite as well as my close friends defend me. When I tell my dad that I have no friends, and that I don't want any(I don't like anyone around here), he says, "Well why not just accept them? Why not go join one of those groups?"

"They're all the same. I do accept them, but that doesn't mean I'm gonna like 'em."

Anyways, I'll be sure to send ya what I have so far. Beware of "teenage" mistakes like gramatical errors and typos.

Young*,
Don't forget to include Hel who also asked to read it.

I'll be reading it to enjoy you & your thoughts. I have no intention of even attempting any constructive criticism. I just think you are one hell of an interesting 14 yr. old. And, if you've taken the time and effort to write about yourself and are willing to share it, then i'm ready and willing to read it.

Hel seems to be like me and i'm sure would enjoy it as well. You don't need to even think of criticism of any kind from the two of us.

Actually, I am looking forward to learning about and from you, Young. I certainly wasn't so mature and insightful as you when I was 14. Nor 15 nor 16......
