Phew, when I saw the size of that post I thought Oh oh.

Youngprer, I offered advice because I see a lot of me, at your age, in your posts. It's not a perfect match, but some things strike a strong resonance.

The books I recommended weren't supposed to sound like self help books. I wouldn't have recommended books like those to the average 14 year old, but I figured you have ability to take them in.

Let me just say, that if you solve all your issues at your age, then look out world. :^)

tell your dad to get rid of the tutor! in that 3 hours a week, you could be photoreading or superreading your books and get a much better grade! your dad needs to realize this...
yea, im 16 and i dont think im motivated enough to commit much-needed time to photoreading. ill try but im a procrastinator all around.
"Well why not just accept them? Why not go join one of those groups?"
LOL! yes you need a few friends who understand you, but joining a clique is usually not good. cliques will put peer pressure on you if not now, they will later. with friends who understand you, you usually dont have to worry about peer pressure because they will understand your values and opinions and respect them.
im having to retake a 9th grade class in my 11th grade year, and i would be getting a lot of insults if it werent for my 100%+ grade and highest score on every test. its the same with you. even though your school is probably a harder curriculum, when you take some of the SAT's, PSAT's, and other standardized tests and score high, you will show everyone that you are smart. my last couple of years of high school, i didnt do very well. this year, i have all a's and 3 high b's, some people call me a genius when i answer questions that nobody else knows. respect among the ignorant is better than being dragged down to their level when you join them.

Alright, Hel and Margaret -

You guys should be getting the file attached in an e-mail. If anything happens, or if you need a different file type, let me know. Any feedback about either the story or my writing itself is COMPLETELY welcome. In fact, you two are probably going to be the first to see any story I've written, or have been writing in about a year. I used to write fanfiction for a Macintosh game called Escape Velocity Override, and in that - that's where I got a lot of my practice....*Sigh.* If only I knew PhotoReading back then.

And Neo:

You think I haven't tried telling my father to get rid of the tutor?? Believe me, I've tried. But because of my "criminal record" (grades) last school year, he doesn't have any faith that I can succeed on my own for a while. Once report cards come out, if everything is C or higher(PFF!) then he's getting rid of the tutor.

In other words:the tutor is gone in a couple of weeks. I just have to deal with her for around another month, or so.

I usually never answer questions in class. Most of the time, I'm too lazy to raise my hand. (Yes, I'm horridly lazy.) I, instead, look around the room wondering are they all REALLY as lazy as me or do they REALLY not know it? I just keep the paper work grades to myself, and don't really tell anyone. When the teacher called me up to her desk, handing out averages, and speaking OUT LOUD what the students had, I was hearing, "73" "86" "82"

So then when everyone heard my name, and then immediately following: "97" half of the class looked back to the teacher's desk where I was standing and gasped. I think one kid even went, "Holy $-it!!"

Of course...I think the one thing that would PROBABLY convince my dad to get rid of the tutor sooner, is if tons of people were to right a few letters of recommendation. lol If you guys would be willing to help me out a little...

Youngprer,

Just hang in there and try your best to deal with the ignoramuses. I believe if you give things time they will get better.

Around a year ago, I was going through some of the same problems with fitting in at school and making friends. Then one day I was sitting in my math class trying to ignore the morons in the back, who think it is funny to shout out wrong answers to the questions on the chalkboard. That was when it really hit me, there was no one in the room I enjoyed being around or talking to. Then I began to asked myself things like: Why the hell am I beating myself up over the fact that they won't except me? Do I have to act like a Neanderthal to be "one of the guys"?

As time passed I seperated myself from them and I realized they had not even noticed that I stopped following them around. I saw that I had no true friends at my school so I went elsewhere in search of someone that I could call my best friend. I thought back to "friends" of the past, then I remebered a boy from my middle school who had always been very nice to me and had been interested in alot of the same things as me. I gave him a call (lucky for me his number hadn't changed since middle school) and we really hit it off, I felt like I had known him forever.

Now a year later we do something almost every weekend. When a problem arises I do not feel like I am all alone anymore, I just call him up and we talk. My best friend is worth more to me than popularity or any amount of money.

I am happy now and I no longer have a yearning to be apart of the crowd. I have discovered I enjoy life much more by just being myself.

My little story probably didn't help anyone, but I felt like I needed to let that all out. I have not been on this board very long and I do not know how to photoread yet, but I have gained so much by being able to be apart of this community.

I would like to thank all of the individuals who make this board possible; I would also like to thank all of the people who take their time to answer questions and to help others.

Thanks,
Thaumaturgy

You sound a lot like me when I was 14. I disliked everybody around me because of the sheer amount of stupidity I saw in this world and the people in it. Greed, Lust, and Vanity motivate the masses and that is why they act as they do.

Unfortunately, I have come to find that stupid kids grow into stupid adults who often think they have understanding but are only educated fools. The goofoffs who act boastful and childish in high school won't mature, they will simply get old, fat, and cranky when life finally passes them by.

Well, I can see many relate to some of my general probs. Kyle and I are also trying to start a band. I may do vocals, or drums. Not too sure. Probably drums. I'm not too great of a singer. Anywho - the band would be singing about a lot of this stuff, but mainly expressing how Kyle and I feel about the world. In other words:we'll be singing about how so many people can be so incredibly ignorant.

I've been working on lyrics for months, writing, rewriting, trashing, editing, etc. to get everything perfect. Margaret, or anyone else:I'm sorry, but I've agreed with Kyle that I can't show you any of that stuff or reveal what we want the band name to be. It's...sort of wanting to be a surprise if we just happen to majorly succeed.

Anyways - I'm amazed at how many replies I've gotten to this topic. If it's still active, I'll let you guys know if there's anything really good on my report card. (There probably will be.) Seeing as how I'm no longer looking for much of any help reguarding PhotoReading, I'm wanting to try and minimize skepticals.

I really feel sorry for so many kids that hate learning, and have no idea of the possibilities, and even refuse to try them when I offer. I don't blame them for hating the public education system, which could use help on a national level, but everyone is a genius but no one seems to usually see that. Potential in everyone lies sleeping, but all you have to do is wake it up.

If anyone besides the ones who haven't read this until this post - please remember:I don't want to sound cocky, or spoiled, but if you can use me as an example for getting into PR, then do it. Such DEPRESSION goes through my head when I see so many refuse. "I hate reading." "Learning is for school. School sucks." IT CAN BE INCREDIBLY FUN, but you have to be willing.

I'll check this post when I get back from school. Thanks for all the feedback, commentary, and advice you guys. I'm really appreciating it. Even those who can relate to me, it's a big help.

You'll be in good company singing about human folly. There have been many songwriters who tore into that topic including
Bob Dylan
Frank Zappa
The Fugs
Warren Zevon
Sparks
Randy Newman
Dead Kennedys
Neil Young
Dead Milkmen
The Smiths/Morrissey
Dave Mustaine/Megadeth
Ween

Some of them are funny (Zappa, Fugs, Sparks, Milkmen, Morrissey, Ween), some are serious (Nirvana, Neils, Megadeth, Dylan, Zevon) and some are just plain mean (Nick Cave and Lou Reed but I didn't list them). But they all wrote great songs by the dozen. Check them out online if you want an extra boost or feel like stealing a line or two; they all have their complete lyrics available for you to PR/superread.

Musically you're sort of on your own because I don't know what style you prefer to play. Keep us posted on your progress.

We're going for a very unique sound. It's sort of a mix between Creed, and what may be called Korn's early bass work. It's extremely hard to describe, but there's no other way I can really put it. And even those two mixed, from different times can sound alienating. I have no way to really describe the sound accurately.

Dave Mustaine! Hell yeah, Dave rules! I love Megadeth.

Hey man. I'm 14 too and 15 on march 2nd. You say photoreading has helped you alot with your school marks. I've only been attempting to photoread since Feb 04, 2003. My average is currently 80 and the highest is 89 in grade eight. I still heven't gotten the basic struction of photoreading. can see teh dib though but when I do i close the book and i can't remember a thing! Am i then suppod to skim through teh book? If so i tried that an dit didn' work.

Anyways, i can't afford a tutor or that package you can buy from this website. The only thing i ave read is a bok I have got that teaches you to photoread and achive the photofocus state.

So please can you help me . I also have problems at home but not as many as you do. But luckly for me I have my room isolated in teh house so that I don't hear anything from teh rest of teh house. that's why I started reading novels.

Now, I'm not exactly a dumb person, but I am the most horrible reader. I have to read eahc sentence 2 or more times to understand thus slowing down my reading speed. I resently did an exam which I didn't finsih becasue of my slow reading skills. I got a 66%. That sucks because I'm in teh same senario as you say you are, if marks < 80 then my parents get ****ed.

K thanks.
