A bookmark sized piece of paper or card might be an option. Since I want to avoid getting caught up with reading when I pull trigger words I find I have the book further in front of me turning a few pages at a time sort of at arms distance and the notebook/paper below it in front of me. If I have the paper to my side, I don't look at it as I write.
