Does it help or hurt if I scroll the pages of the e-book as fast as possible with the page-down key rather than look at each page for a second or so before proceeding? If the pages go by quickly enough, it seems that the information would have a better chance of bypassing the conscious mind.

When I phtoread web texts, I go as fast as possible and do it two or sometimes three times. That way I know is going in. I read a graph that said at 25,000 words a lot of people can get 80-85% comprehension (more if require, thats for activation) and at 52,000 words most people can get 85-90% comprehension (maybe it is a little easier to activate). Either way the point is to bypass the conscious mind completely and let the subconscious sort it out. Thats generally what I do and it has been working. If anyone wants to add go ahead.

It's up to you. I personally scroll or hold the page down key. I go as fast as the computer will allow me to. The reason that we only photoread books at 25000 wpm is because of the physcial restriction on page turning. If we could turn the pages faster and maintain the smoothness then we'd be photoreading faster.

The graph that you referred to does not relate to photoreading system however. Since comprehension is an individual thing no one can say exactly how much comprehension you will get from any given material. It's on a need to know basis. I should also point out that the graph shows that under the 49 year old age group comprehension remains 80% or less. Only 3500 people were tested and only the 80-89 age group achieved 85%. No group achieved 90%

Yes 80-89 might have been a unique individual.

Unfortunately the graph doesn't show how many were in each age group and there is no data to explain the graph. Oddly it has 2 scores for the 52,000wpm perhaps they were scores relative to experience. When I emailed them to ask I only got an autobot email in return telling me they no longer respond to email that I have to call them however I can sign up for their course online.

A couple of things have taught me to be suspicious of graphs Basically I was taught how to design graphs to make things look better than what they are (even lie). A textbook I was referred to called how to make graphs lie. This makes me look more closely at graphs.

A book that I found useful in looking at what people/governments are trying to sell you more objectively is 200% of Nothing A K Dewdney copyright 1993 ISBN 0-471-14574-2(paper)It gives an overview of how graphs are used to misinform, selective numbers plotted on the graph, graphic illiusions and noticing what you haven't been told.
