i have been thinking about this issue for quite some time. since NLP is a technology/science which derived from the info gathering process of the brain via language structures, i wonder, will NLP work on non-native english speakers? (English as Second Language/ESL) will it work to a lesser extent? will it not work at all?
has any non-native english speaker on this forum used NLP on his/her ESL friends and gotten satisfying results?

how about NLP in languages other than english? does the pattern still apply to languages that utilizes entirely different structures? japanese for example..

i remember pete responding to a post inquiring about the effects of paraliminals on an ESL speaker. if an individual can understand and enjoy an english movie then paraliminals will work for the person...was the answer i think. does this go for NLP as well?

In my (admittedly imperfect) understanding, language is just the vehicle used to uncover the inner workings of the mind. I do know that NLP is taught in Europe and while I don't know whether it is taught in Asian countries, I see no reason why it wouldn't work.

As for your question about NLP and ESL, my wife is Japanese and I've used NLP techniques with her quite successfully and during my Practitioner training we had a Philipino woman who was very successful with the techniques.

In short, it seems that it doesn't matter which language is used because all human languages have evolved to convey the same sorts of information and processes.

I have the same experience as MikeB. Although my wife is not Japanese :-) (she and I are both Dutch. English is our second language).

NLP is very popular in the Netherlands. Some language patterns can't be easily transated. However, new language patterns have been 'invented' because of the language.

And yes, in my opinion and experience the same answer Pete gave goes as well for NLP.
