Hey, I read once on the forum that you can be in alpha state or the flow state all the time somehow. Anyone care to elaborate on that? What would be the advantage? Is it safe?

It is not so much alpha state but the flow state.

In the flow state your mind is functioning at 'whatever' brainwave pattern it requires to do the task. The flow state is where you are 'working' with full focus on the task at hand. During this time nothing distracts you.

The work is just challenging enough to be interesting and at the same time within your level of ability

Check out that site for an explaination of the flow state.

I heard that young children are easy to hypnotize because they're always in a light alpha state to begin with.

If you spend a lot of time watching TV you'll also find yourself in a light Alpha state too.

Just last night, I read that watching TV leaves a person with a low (weak) alpha state. This was being denounce as counter productive to developing imagination capabilities.... and enhance learning ability.

The process of watching TV isn't exactly that educational is it? Makes you a great consumer though.

Yea this is something, I've thought of recently, this explains why children learn more in the first 3 years then the rest of their lives, also the extensive imaginative capabilities and there succeptibilty and willingess to absorb new information (ie.you tell a child the moon is made of cheese, they will more often then not, believe you) until the analytical part of the brain kicks in, ( i think around the age of 3, it might be 6 i forgot..better give the ol' memory supercharger a whizz again :P) The child relies exclusively on its ability to absorb information, ie language, the best way is to absorb it using your imagination and to feel it rather then, "learning it" the conventional way with tedious repetitions of grammar verbs etc.. this stuff is not needed to know how to speak a language as you are conciously thinking of it, slowing you down tremendously, you have to have the language in your subconcious so you speak it without conciously thinking what your doing..(if that makes sense)

Saw this thread again, and thought "The optimal mental state for the task at hand" which is my best para-phrasing of Margaret.

P.S. We miss you girl, and hope you are doing well.

Hmm...I don't recall Margaret ever saying that, but I'm relatively new. Seems to me though that I've heard Alex say that much more often.
