Actually, does anyone know how much time a night is spent (on average) in REM sleep?

I'm curious because i would like to know if it's possible to reduce my sleep time and yet still retain the quality of a good night's sleep by distilling the hours to just merely the time it takes for REM sleep and to cut out the padding.

Are you kidding??? REM sleep deprivation is one of the worst possible things you could do to yourself!! Your subconcious needs that time to express itself and communicate with your concious mind metaphorically. Long-term REM sleep deprivation could land you in the ha-ha house. Besides, even if you do "cut it out" for just a short time, you'll have what is known as a "REM rebound" and have for one or two nights an insane amount of REM sleep. But still, it's not healthy to eliminate REM during the week and then just have a REM rebound over the weekend.

I have only ever had one lucid dream that I can remember - and I can remember it because it's so stupid! I was standing outside my house (in the dream, that is) and suddenly thought, "wait a minute, I'm dreaming here!". As soon as I realised this, I remember attempting to fly - and succeeding. This lasted about 2 or 3 minutes or so, then I suddenly thought (God knows why), "Oh, I'm not dreaming any more", and I lost it again. D'oh!

Here's a very useful newsgroup for all you wannabe-LDers:

alt.dreams.lucid

also check out alt.dreams. This NG is great for dream interpretation, just post your dream and you'll get an interpretation of its likely meaning thru email.

Asou. One interesting thing I found as soon as I visited alt.dreams.lucid was about two subjects I am interested in, Buddhism and dreams.

An interesting book about the two, which got good reviews is "Tibetan Yogas of Dream and Sleep". Here's a link for it on Amazon.

Because the IBVA (wirelessly) connects to the computer, you can have it, say, play a sound when it detects rem sleep...similiar to the NoveDreamer as I understand, but with the IBVA you can do oh so much more. For starters, how about monitoring your brainwaves during photoreading or listening to paraliminals?

Yes, I've had my eye on it for quite some time...to quote: "Now all I need is a fistfull of dollars."
