Has anyone done the "Personal Power" tape series by Anthony Robbins, are they as good as they claim?

I've got the 1989 tape course and would have thrown it out if someone hadn't expressed an interest in it I think I got them in 1991 or 92.

I never completed the course which requires listening to both sides of one tape and actively attempting to put into practice what you learnt thoughout the day along with journaling. I found it difficult at the time to meet that requirement so stalled on my listening after the 4th tape. I realised that I was barely able to expend the time listening and not actually incorporating the ideas that he was presenting.

One other thing about the course that did bother me personally was the hyped up tone that Mr Robbins projected. He may be a naturally enthusiastic person and rather unique with the level of enthusiasm projected. I have never come across it before in a tape course or seminar only from door to door sales men. It bothered me because to me anyone that projects that much enthusiasm is trying to motivate me or sell me something that I may not want to buy and I became wary of what I felt was too much salesmanship type/level of enthusiasm. It actually crashed my intial personal enthusiasm for the course and is one of the reasons why in spite of the fact that I tried twice more to get through the course I never succeeded. I personally prefer the more down to earth self assured tone from presenters. His first tape course, each tape, sounded too much like an informercial. Fortuantely his books were much more digestable like watching an informercial with the sound off. Well not quite... watching informercials with the sound off is kind of funny. Some of those presenters act more excited than kids let loose in a toy or candy store and the worse hams are not the ones actually selling the product. I've seen infomercials where the product supplier looked like they wished they had a mallet or at least a fly squatter to get rid of the annoying present. Opps side tracked.

Don't have "Personal Power". I have an old set of tapes (picked it up real cheap)called "Unlimited Power". It's not a course, but it does have exercises. I found the information and exercises very useful for myself.

I saw Anthony on the tube, a day or two ago, and I wasn't impressed with his "Here's how to succeed" message. It's wrapped up as Succeed and you'll be happy. Maybe some will, and maybe all some want is success. The old tapes I have had more content that would help you reach happiness. It also has a lot of information that would be helpful to achieve success.

Alex, I know what you mean, have you ever watched the infomercials about how to start your own real estate venture or "Rich dad, Poor Dad" informercials. I guess, its better if I stick to the paraliminals and courses from LSC, I KNOW they work.

Hey! Where'd my post go?? I could've swarn I posted in this thread. I can see how someone's tone on something like that may get annoying, but Tony does know some good stuff.

I also believe that Tony's books have some genuinely helpful information in them, but I later came to realize that all he does is repackage already established ideas and techniques from NLP and present them as his own. Reading one of his books is good for getting a sort of layman's introduction to NLP.
I wholeheartedly agree with AlexK that he comes off too much as a huckster and a carnival barker. I think his whole approach gives other people/companies in the self-development field a bad name.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, but I guess I must have overlooked it. Oops.

I don't think he presents NLP ideas as his own, does he? I thought he gave credit to all those guys. I know he does talk about NLP techniques, exercises, and methods, but.... Dunno.
