The only thing ? Ouch. The tapes are great for people who have difficult figuring things out from written text and prefer to hear it explained. They also guide you to the most practical and fastest way to obtain hands on experience. With the book you have the photoreading system in the order that it is done. With the tape course you learn it in the order of first correcting mistakes commonly made during regular reading that later help to make learn things like activation a simpler process.
As Kaiden pointed out, the tapes also coach the getting relaxed something that otherwise takes longer to get comfortable with when learning only from the book. It actually demystifies some of the proceedures faster. As well as being available for repeated listening/review something we tend to do even less on books.
