First off, I'm a fairly new user of LS tapes and am quite pleased with them. Using the Perfect Health tape along with Belleruth Naperstak's Guided Imagery tape on healing, I've made great strides in curing a relatively longstanding lymph system problem (about 1 year). Though subtle I can feel the definite change. I also have NGB, personal brilliance, memory supercharger, but haven't used them. A lady at LS said I should only use one at a time until I get my desired results. However, looking at past posts here I see that may not be true. I'll experiment then.

Anyway, my question...I have a friend who has periodic bouts with major depression. He has been prescribed medicine but does not take it regularly like he should. It doesn't seem to help much anyway. Is there a tape (or tapes) that could be recommended that might help him? I understand many are uneasy about giving information that could be construed as "medical advice". But please know that I realize any answer is "only" an opinion....I'm just looking for direction. He and his wife are wonderful people and this problem is causing tremendous difficulty and pain in their lives.
Thank you for your time.
M

Sorry, but i can't answer your question. However, i have a question for you. Where did you find the Belleruth Naperstak's Guided Imagery tape on healing?

Thanks

Margaret,
I also have her tapes and they are really good. I have had them for years but recently pulled them out to help myself with this depression/anxiety. In fact, I use her tape along with PL. It is helping. Her tapes are awesome, in my opinion. Wish I could tell you how to get them. but it has been so long I don't remember. Wait--

Just looked at cover:
1-800-800-8661

Image Paths, Inc.
P.O. Box 5714
Cleveland, Oh 44101

That is from 1992--hope it is still good

There are a lot tapes, machines, programs and the like to cure or at least control depression. Each vendor will assure you that their program is the one that will work. Added to this, there are a number of things that could contribute to your friends bouts of depression. NBG is a good start, there is New History Generator as well as the Euphoria! p.r. program.
Your friend's depression may need the help of another counselor or practioner, has he considered a second opinion? I could tell you about my own personal preferences, but your friend's needs seem more immediate.

Good Luck!

Claire,
Thanks so much.
I'll see if i can get them from there.

For some reason i'm into guided imagery stuff. Anna Wise does a nice job, but my problem is that since i love Paul's voice & all of his tapes, i tend to compare voices! I'm just curious more than anything else.

I never stray far from LS

Hang in there. If you let your intuition show you the steps to take, you'll be so much more ahead of the game.

Have you tried using PG for using your intuition to guide you thru this difficult phase in your life? Paul always says to release, notice, respond & witness. Part of that notice step is to come from different angles. Periphereal vision & all periphereal stuff is never direct; it's all off to the side kind of stuff.

Margaret,
I'm in a rush since we are in the middle of packing to bring the daughter to College. (University of the South, Sewanee). Anyway, Thanks for the suggestion. I think I will try that. I do understand more about what has caused this anxiety problem and will share it when I have more time. But I also want to tell you that I have done Guided Imagery for a long time and besides Bellaruth my other favorite is Bernie Seigel. I have to say that I do like his voice better than Paul's but then I found his first. Thanks again!

Hi
First, do check out "The Thyroid Solution" by Ridha Arem. Dr Arem has helped people with "incurable" depression by taking a very close look at their thyroidal activity.
I belong to Kaiser Permanente and had to sidestep my regular doctor (who is a *wonderful* personal physician) in order to see an endocrinologist (recommended strongly by Dr. Arem).
Arem, it should be mentioned, is an integrationist. He believes that conventional antidepressants have their place in dealing with depression, as does meditation techniques. He doesn't mention Qi Gong but, I suspect, that's because he just hasn't run across it.
Beyond this, I recommend that your friend get 2 books, both available from www.abebooks.com
(1)Self-Creation by Dr. George Weinberg Your friend will need this book to get a good view of what works and what does not work, generally, in psychology.
(2)Six Pillars of Self-Esteem by Dr. Nathaniel Branden Your friend can use the practices in this book, along with those in "Self-Creation" to combat perhaps 50% of the pernicious effect of depression.
One caveat:books or tapes are of limited help if there is a biochemical problem. Please ask him to get Dr. Arem's book and to study it thoroughly.

best wishes,
Mike

Of the Paraliminals, we've heard favorable reports about New History Generator and Self-Esteem Supercharger from people with depression.

The most dramatic reports have come from people practicing the Active Exercise of Spring Forest Qigong.

Regarding listening to more than one tape at a time: You will be better served by focusing on one goal (not one tape) at a time, unless the goals you would like to work on are minor, then sail away, sail away. When working on a goal, listen to as many different Paraliminal sessions as may support your goal. When listening to more than one in a day, be sure to give yourself at least a 20-minute break between listenings.
