In a sense it it is all spontaneous activation. The problem is that it's a sense of inner knowing and because your conscious mind is so slow in processing the information you need to get it to come up. One way to experience instant activation is to have a question before you PR the book. for example what word is the adjective for enormous, huge gigantic and is a derivative from a character name in a story. PR a dictionary to see if you can find it. You may while photoreading suddenly know the answer or you may have realised the answer already from your previous flips through the English dictionary. Spontaneous activation.
Until you get asked questions about the book or topic that you photoread there is no need for your inner mind to throw it up to your conscious awareness. Remember your conscious awareness has other priorities. So until you ask it specific questions sponateous activation is going to remain pot luck. It occurs when you accidently ask the right question.
To experience what spontaneous activation is like PR a book that someone has read and is familar with and get them to ask you questions. Multiple choice yes/no questions.
As for knowing the story in a similar sense as having 'read' the book... well that's where the slow poke conscious mind usually switches over... it takes a while for it to recreate the story, you'd have to sit there thinking about it. Just recall a memory of what you did yesterday... recreate it as if it was a story, you'll notice that it takes time and, well, try and stop your mind from wondering off to something else? That's why the manual activation techniques are useful tools. They keep your mind from getting off track and onto building more useful neural pathways. And the more you have the more information you can hook up with and understand. The easier it becomes to learn. Once you have the information there you make associations faster.
The information you PRed is there and ready to come up any time. The 1 to 3 hours you spend activating isn't really reading. It's learning in a sense. Redefining and creating more neural pathways so that not only do you have a conscious knowledge of what you PRed but also so that you can link to it new creative ideas. Not just from books but life experiences as well. To see others' ideas in ways that the other may not have realised that it can be used. It's for getting the conscious mind to work with the inner mind. Manual activation is the discipline training for inner mind / conscious mind communication connection. Ask the right questions and you get the answers. With enough activation practice you start discovering the right questions so activation can become faster.
