Hello everybody. I received a cassette tape in the mail a few days ago and listened to it. I found it very interesting of what I heard. I searched the Internet and found this web site and forum. I gotta ask though, does PR truly work? I read a lot of technical computer books and find it very difficult at times to remember/comprehend stuff I read. I've always wanted to read faster and remember more of what I read. Perhpas this is what I've been looking for.

Thanks
Palani

The system works for me . I have the tape course. All I did was listen to each tape and did the exercises as they came up. Since then I experience a few bonus surprises as a result of this skill.

FREE?!?! WHERE WHERE!!! I'm a bit of a techie too, hehe. I find it easy to just learn anything techinical. NOPS, and work with it. Learn to love what you do even if you hate it. Just do it, overall u'll accept more of what you'll learn. And do try to find releavance to what you learn, but don't forget that which you don't use often. Keep EVERYTHING in tech, it's always used, trust me.

hey. Yeah, PR is great. It really does work very well but its different and takes a little patience to learn. As for technical stuff, I'm a CS major and addicted to coding and use it for my textbooks. You can use it on any type of material. It helps a lot for tech stuff because since you learn the material in layers you remember much more of it and more of the details. Photoreading is superior to other reading systems is almost every way (cant think of what the almost would be but i'm sure there is one).

hahahhah. Actually, I meant Computer Science not Counterstrike. hehe. Although I did play my share of CS last year. I should have guessed you were a CS guys by the 1337 speak. I've been doing PR for probably about 2 months maybe. I think I've got a pretty good handle on it but I've spent a lot of time working with it and trying to understand it.

Heya,

I'm considering buying the PR learning course, but first, I've got to clear up a few things...

Is there actual proof about the value of photoreading? By that, I mean scientific reports. I read the countless witness stories about that went like "I PRead this, and I got a raise afterwards". The same with good grades, deeper insights.... But those stories don't have a source that can be checked. Any proof backing up these statements.

I also found a test on PR by the NASA on kazaa, but I can't download it. Can anyone send this or at least tell us what the conclusions in it were?

Thanks

I have much the same concern; it appears to me that there is a lot of hand-waving which goes on in the world of PR. Not to be too critical- because I gather from some of the posts here that many people do experience an improvement with PR program-but, do we really know if it's the PR that is responsible for the noted improvements. I find it also helpful to just survey the material and skim through- using traditional reading methods- before concentrating on certain portions of the text. This leads me to question whether or not the process of "gazing with soft eyes" actually confers much benefit. This would be easy to test using a simple, blind experiment. Like was said, are there any studies actually done on this? If so, under what exact conditions does it function best? Hypnosis here? The subconscious operates in very complicated ways; I think that all people involved with PR owe it to themselves to learn more about how their minds really work. If studies indicate that the process of subconscious-imbibing does appreciably increase reading ability better than other methods of simple skimming and selective reading than this would surely be a paradigm changing fact for the education world.

On the NASA doc. Someone had sent me a copy for my opinion. The first thing that struck me is that there is no mention of NASA having conducted this experiement within the article itself. Absent also was the Name of the individual who wrote the article and date of publication. I listed 57 questions I wanted to ask the Author of that article reguarding the test. I later received another copy which did identify the Author and from that information I now seriously doubt that NASA commissioned the paper.

The question of just previewing and skimming being all that is really required to make PR work had occur to me some time ago. To this end I devised my own test/experiment of the photoreading system. I chose a book where I had difficulty reading, where my comprehension is poor and I usually give up trying to read it altogether. I felt that these symptoms are pretty common amongst those turning to photoreading in the hope of getting their required reading out of the way. I even experienced the same fears apprehensions and doubts about photoreading that seem to plague learners of photoreading about activation. My experiement for me personally was proof that there is something important happening when you photoread rather than just read.

I posted my results here http://www.learningstrategies.com/forum/ubb/Forum8/HTML/002346.html

Since then I had experienced learning from a book without actually activating (the skimming scanning / superreading & dipping). I only photoread the book. Prior to photoreading I was stumped by a question of how to approach an assignment for a friend. Because I was at a loss and I was grateful for the fact that I had other commitments and time to think about it. When I came back I PRed a book on the subject. I had a few but found one more relevant than others so I only PRed the one. I plonked the book next to the computer with the intention of activating it when my friend asked me questions in relation to the assignment.

Well he had decided that he was not going to do the assignment. I let it go until he said that he had finally finished the other assignment. When he asked what I was doing I was just browsing the web. I told him I had PRed the book on the subject for him. He wound up quizzing me and I found myself answering questions of the top of my head. He scored 70% on the assignement losing points for not having followed the correct layout. Next day I realised what I did and was curious where I got my information about insurance and the information on it, well I checked the book and knew my answer.

I know only if I waited for scientific proof that something works; I'd still be sitting in the dark, there is no proof that electricity works other than experience. It just does.

Alex
