I have much the same concern; it appears to me that there is a lot of hand-waving which goes on in the world of PR. Not to be too critical- because I gather from some of the posts here that many people do experience an improvement with PR program-but, do we really know if it's the PR that is responsible for the noted improvements. I find it also helpful to just survey the material and skim through- using traditional reading methods- before concentrating on certain portions of the text. This leads me to question whether or not the process of "gazing with soft eyes" actually confers much benefit. This would be easy to test using a simple, blind experiment. Like was said, are there any studies actually done on this? If so, under what exact conditions does it function best? Hypnosis here? The subconscious operates in very complicated ways; I think that all people involved with PR owe it to themselves to learn more about how their minds really work. If studies indicate that the process of subconscious-imbibing does appreciably increase reading ability better than other methods of simple skimming and selective reading than this would surely be a paradigm changing fact for the education world.
