I think the worst is "layered" dreams. I had this one dream where I must have "woke up" over three times. What finally got me out of the constant-waking nightmare was my mother trying to rape me. I knew it was so out of character (all things being equal, I'm a guy and my mom's a lesbian), that I had to be dreaming. I thrashed around until I was sure I was awake (it sounded real - correct echo quality), then I got up and walked around until I was sure I wasn't going back to bed.

This was before PhotoReading.

PhotoReading doesn't teach lucidity, but it does give the preconscious mind more information than most people put in it. If you think of the mind as a house, then the conscious mind is the living-room and the preconscious mind is the foyer. PhotoReaders can host a party for 100 guests and never leave the foyer. If the dreaming mind is the bedroom, then dreaming after PhotoReading but before activating is like inviting guests to leave their coats on the bed. The secret is simple - ask for a dream about the book. Ask outloud, because that involves more parts of the brain. Anchor by drinking water, and then sleep.
