Since I don't have a desk, and have to use my bed, I've found what works rather well is PhotoReading 5-7 books at once, and moving one to the bottom of the stack once it's done. It's a self-rewarding system.
Actually, today I broke my own record and photoread 16 books in one sitting. Took me a large chunk of time. However, I got into a discussion of the subject matter a few hours later with my girlfriend, and I said to her, "I have no way of telling you this without insulting you, but you're a lot smarter than I thought you were." The conversation acted as spontanious activation, and I recognized her thoughts as being genius. I could write my findings based enterly on the agreements we made, and use the books only as authorities to back up our own genius.
Since you're first starting, though, keep it to one book at a time until you're through your first dozen or so books. It could easily be done in under a month, given two days per book. (Preview and Photoread one day, Activate and Mind-map the next). Syntopic reading is very good to avoid the effects of being mind-warped by any book. Over a broad enough spectrum, the opinions of multiple authors tend to cancel each other out.
