One technique that lends itself especially well to PhotoReading is to find a book of poetry containing both the translation and the original. Preferably on opposing pages. Because the translator is attempting to preserve the meter, the rhyme, or both, you will gain an additional level of post-linguistic structuring.

Very true. Some language structure finds me more of interest than that of English.

In addition to photoreading I recommend reading up on some mnemonic systems. have you looked into the Superlearning Method? (which involves using a tape recorder).

Some relevant books and URL's:
--Superlearning by Sheila Ostrander and Lynn Schroeder (if you can cut through the hype down to the core techniques this book could be usefull)
-- here is a random college department counselling office's advice for improving memory, including superlearning www.smc.maricopa.edu/services/counseling/memory.html
-- I recommend using self-hypnosis both for general learning goals and to learn about how to enter the hyper-suggestible state, which, I am convinced, is where superlearning occurs. Try a google search, and check out some books.

If you have any success with any of these methods let us know.
