I've justed finished my PR home study course, but when I photoread, I loose my concentration, and my mind begins to wander around. Is this bad? How can I stop this? Also, I try to photoread textbooks, but it's really hard coz it's so thick. Any tips please? I'm really struggling here.

Since you are new to the PR system I wouldn't worry to much about loosing concentration. Just follow the steps, make sure you are relaxed and that you have established a purpose. Then use the chant as instructed in the course. The chant is ment for preventing mind wondering off. If you feel that you've lost the concentration stop shortly try bringing the tangerine back to the top of your head and then continue. Breathe deeply and evenly - that alone should increase your focus. Maybe you should try making several passes trough the book if they are to thick starting at different places. But the most important thing is not to worry and to play with all the steps to see what works best for you.
I'm no expert to PR yet and I'm sure someone else with much more experience will answer your post as well. I also recommend you to search the forum for themes relating to your problems (try a search for concentration).
Hope this helps a bit.

Everyone wanders at times. It's okay, just bring yourself back to the book.

I sometimes step through the tangerine door as I PR, it seems to help me.

You might consider modifying the chant. I do all the time. Try 4, 3, 2, 1, I'm absorbing this book. That little additions should help keep you focussed on what you're doing.

I used to add "relaxed and alert" to my chant. When preparing I found so easy to relax I could drift off to sleep. I'd yawn like crazy and my eyes would water. Adding the "alert" solved my problem. I also noticed that as I used to PR some of my muscles would tense. By adding the "relax" to my chant, I noticed my muscles would immediately relax. They would tense again, but after a few cycles of the chant, they remained relaxed.

Oh, here's one of my current favourite additions to the chant "I'm the worlds best PhotoReader". This always brings a smile to my face and I feel it helps the absorption of the material.

Good luck and have fun.

Hard on the eyes, the hands, or the mind?

I've just completed the course. So I am
new here.
By the way, hello everybody.
About the concentration issue.
What about using a metronom?
That's the tool used to learn how to keep the
rythm (tempo) when playing a musical instrument.
I've tried a couple of times and I think
it helps me to keep my concentration.
cheers,
carblo

I've used something along the same lines - an analog wind-up timer. The noise it makes reminds me of the task at hand. I use it when activating only, though. I'm very big on the "no gimick" rule of PhotoFocus.
