It depends on what I'm thinking about, but about 90% of the time, when either talking to people, doing math, hearing a story, and pretty much solving any problem, it usually happens by me seeing shapes within certain feelings/places/object/people, and then somehow these shapes usually link up to solve whatever it is I'm think about. I'll usually end up seeing them spin, travel, and flip, most of the time falling directly into place effortlessly. Other times, my mind tries to make sense out of nothing, and it leads to nothing, so those times really frustrate me.
The only small percentage of my thinking that I seem to have consciously take place in words is reading, or describing the images. Even when giving advice on the forum, I usually get a picture in my head of these nameless faces working through the system, flipping pages, and the text itself...
It's hard to describe what happens in words, as you may be able to tell... 
Lately, my intuitive signals about people's personalities, pasts, and characteristics have become extremely accurate, and I'm able to walk up to random people and ask them about something, and they'll look at me saying: "How did you know that?! 
" Whenever I'm studying people's personalities, and traits by their past, most of what I read in them has to do with lines on their body(the way it curves), the way their hair falls across their face, the logic behind their gestures, etc.
