I would suggest taking a manual drafting class. Even if you are not interrested in engineering/architecture, it may help improve your handwriting. That is what helped me to improve my writing as a side benefit.
Now I will admit my script handwriting is still pretty much illegible unless I really slow down and take my time, but I typically write in block format.
