Make sure you prepare new books by Breaking it in.
Rest the closed book on its spine, open the front and back cover. (The rest of the pages are still vertical.) Run your index finger down as close to the center crease as you can.
Take 3 to 10 pages from the front and back and again run your finger down the center crease.
Continue to this way to the middle of the book.
This helps to open the book and makes it more responsive to easier page turning.
A couple of fans of the pages doesn't hurt either.
As for skipping pages, if you realise you skipped a few to many for your liking remember you can turn the book over and photoread from back to front (and upside down) to catch those missing pages. Stay relaxed, keep going and then turn the book over continue photoread.
