As a computer trainer I am often given classes with very short notice. Most of the time, I am called the night before and asked to teach this class or that class.
I teach everything from Microsoft Office to Oracle 9i classes. The company that I teach for gives all instructors a CD with the class manuals on PDF format.
So the night before, I load up the PDF. I get into the altered state. I setup Adobe Acrobat to show the PDF in full-screen (CTRL-L). Then, I just hold the arrow key down. I do two passes at this speed, then I do a "slow pass" where I press the down arrow every 1/2 second or so.
Right before class, I activate by flipping through the book. I also treat the class as an activation session, because I have students asking all types of questions.
I would say about 80% of the time, I can answer the question without a problem. It's also strange because I can usually find the exact button for certain feature in the software.
So far after 3 weeks of teaching, I am averaging 9.5+ (on a scale of 1-10) on my student evaluations. So I must be doing something right!
P.S. You never realize how much you can actually do with MS Office, until you teach it!
