I would like to photoread 30 books in each subject. So quite many of them are relevant but not directly relevant to my syllabus. In that case, how should I state my purpose?

Usually, I would say,' My inner mind is now going to study the main ideas of the definitions, theorems, proofs and ways of applications'

I think I can't study all the def, thm, proofs. How should I state a general or suitable purpose so that I can photoread all the books at a time rather than doing previews and stating different purpose for 30 times?

You're talking about syntopic reading. It's explained in the photoreading book I suggest you follow those steps. You'll know your purpose will be something like 'to find useful information that helps me understand ..... better'.

You then photoread each of the books after a light preview (just enough to determine if you the book might have some useful information) You can preview them all before you start photoreading. Then just photoread 4 or 5 then take a break and photoread another 4 or 5 ... for however many books you have an interest in.

Then when it comes to activation allow yourself to be drawn to the books and pages to answer the question you formed in your mind ... do that with a couple of books. Remember to mind map all this.

Be sure to check the photoreading book it explains all the steps in detail.

My first thought was you were looking for too much detail. Then I read AlexK and remembered that most people form there purpose with WHAT they want to know. Their purpose can have some of that, but I strongly believe that you have to understand the WHY you want to know something and you should include it into the purpose you use when PRing.

The WHY will make it a high priority item for your mind, and so something it should act respond to rather than some other directives.

Good luck,

Iam2

An additional thought. The mind can be very literal so when you say...

quote:
' My inner mind is now going to study the main ideas of the definitions, theorems, proofs and ways of applications'

It's all going to go into your inner mind alright but how are you going to access the information when you need it?

Also that isn't really a statement of purpose, it's just a statement of what you are going to do... in other words... what is the point of studying? Often it answer is to be able to call on the correct answers in my test on...

Remember purpose means; (according to the Macquarie dictionary, an Australian one.)

1. The object for which anything exist or is done, made.

2.an intended or desired result; end or aim... this is the important one to note.

In otherwords like Iam2 said... why are you reading, photoreading, activating the text?

Your purpose should be what you expect to have, know, or be able to do after you have finished activating. Photoreading and activating are only the steps to get you there.

So a better purpose could be 'I am going to photoread this book/text by (name the author and title; this helps you find the right book again if you need to look up the information later)... so that I... can apply the right/correct theorem, formula, definition (whatever) on my test on... and get my best possible passing grade.'

Dear Alex and Iam2,

Thanks for your advice. This is specifically for Iam2. I am not actually looking for too much information. But I just want to fully absorb the materials in textbooks and lecture notes. However, the books and notes are usually filled with important points without detailed explanations. In order to comprehend it better, I can't just read it.

I am sure you have such experience, that if you want to comprehend a book very well, no matter how hard you stick to that book, you can't comprehend it fully.
You need another book of the same or relevant topic. Sometimes even the topics are just a little bit relevant or irrelevant, but they stimulate your brain
to think. Like, a scientist come up with a great idea by just looking a child playing or some other completely irrelevant stuffs. I am looking for some stimulator.

Though I do a basic probability course. I photoread stochastic process and books with 1000 exercises so as to store different information in brain and see if they will server as stimulators.

By the way, I am doing Linear Algebra, Sets & Groups Theory, (real numbers, sequence, series continuity, differentiability, integrals) of Real Analysis, Basic Calculus, Calculus of 2 more more variables, Calculus in 3D, Mechanics, Geometry, Complex Geometry, Introductory Probability (partition, pgf, random walk, gambler ruin's problesm, distributions, bla bla bla) and introductory statistics. In UK, we don't sit for individual paper of each course. We will sit in 4 papers with 2-4 courses in 1 paper.

For the chanting, I have a question.

Should I do in this way? Re flip Lax flip Re flip Lax flip 4 f 3 f 2 f 1 f Re f Lax f Re f Lax f Keep the state f See the page f

or should I flip as I chant the word at the same time rather than doing it separately? Also, if I chant as I mentioned (just follow what paul said in the tape), I would become more slowly in last 2 sentences of chant.

Combine the chant and the page flipping in a way that allows you to keep a steady consistant rhythm for page turning. If the chant throws you out of rhythm you can always modify it. It's aim is to help you keep to the intention of page turning / photoreading. You could even pick another chant or affirmation chant.
