That sounds like quite a course load.
Yes finding another text is often the best thing. Different authors give different emphasis on the same material. Also broadening your scope is always good. Don't loose site of your deadline oriented goal.
I will say that deeper and harder isn't always the best way to learn something that isn't coming to you easily. If a hammer doesn't work try a screwdriver.
