Hi.

Can you please explain these 2 technics? It seems to be, that they aren't explained in my (german) photoreading-book. I need these 2 technics for better activation. Thank You!

Read the first line and last line of a paragraph word for word. Then, glance semi-randomly at every word in the paragraph. Repeat for each additional paragraph. When reading chapters, read the first and last paragraph word-for-word. When reading books, read the first page and last page word-for-word.

The basic idea is that the author will put most of the information right up front, or summerize it near the end. Everything in the middle supports the idea.

Rhymthmic perusal - relaxed focus smooth movement across the line, look for meaning in units such a as phrases.

Use rhythmic perusal when 'reading' whilst skittering. Usually the first sentence, but also for any phrases that catch your eyes whilst superreading and dipping or skittering.

Skittering is a pattern of scanning you can invent yourself it can be jumping quickly to key words in a paragraph it can be a clockwise motion or anti clockwise, zig zag... what ever helps you to notice and collect data quickly.

Remember to take a break from activation every 20 - 30 minutes so that you can record your findings on a mind map. Often it isn't that we missed information but forgot it because we spend too long on activation and neglect to mind map it.

Whilst learning it is good practice to draw a mind map of the books you activate. It trains your mind to pick up information and bring it back to conscious memory faster. Later a mind map may not be required.
