You can apply it to whatever you want. In general the more you learn about a subject the easier it is to learn and remember a subject. It's easier to connect neural pathways to existing ones, creating new ones takes a bit more time. Like clearing a jungle to make a path, each time you walk along the path it becomes easier to walk and you have time to notice more on the sides than you did when you first started creating the path.
