Before activation, you devise a list of questions you want answered. You then begin to manually activate by searching for the answers. My question: is the benefit of mindmapping fulfilled by writing down the answers as you locate them or by completing an activation section and then jotting down the answers that you can remember by memory i.e. letting it bubble up from the subconscious?

The benefit of mindmapping is fulfilled whenever your outcome is achieved.

Are you wanting to be able to reproduce what you are reading in the form of a mind map, or are you wanting to memorize a mind map you have already produced.

As I suggested in another thread, mind mapping fulfills two distinct, yet synergistic, outcomes:

1. Mindmapping collects multiple bits of, arguably, auditory information into one visual representation for RECALL.

2. Mindmapping aids in comprehension by showing the interconnections between concepts on a broad scale view.

Now, depending on your purpose (ie - comprehension and/or recall), mindmapping should be used whenever necessary.

As to bubbling up, I would offer this possibility: the mind works in a gestalting fashion. For example, if you were presented with the picture of 2 sides of a triangle, your mind would 'bubble up' the idea of what was missing in order to complete the picture.

Mind mapping creates the two sides of the triangle - your un/pre/sub/conscious provides the third side with information taken in during the photofocus procedure.

Good luck, and...
