I've been reading this board for awhile now and this is my first post.
This question may sound really strange and will definitely make me look like a pothead, but I assure you that I am not.
I've had experience with the drug mainly in party atmospheres, but recently I had a more sensory experience, where I allowed myself to really observe the effects of marijuana. I found I was able to understand different parts of the music better than ever. I felt that it would be relatively easy to pick up the drums in that state because it was so clear and separate from other parts of the music. Has anyone experimented along these lines or tried initiate this state without drug use?

One of the Andreas' books on submodalities ("Heart of the Mind" maybe ?) has a chapter on recreating drug induced altered states using submodalities. (ie, drug-like states without the drugs).

(I'll double check that that's the right title).

Sweet! Have you been successful at getting stoned in your imagination?

Okay, so I looked at "Heart of the Mind" and that isn't the one.

My memory is that it's one of the "live format" NLP books. It's also not "Using your Brain for a Change". (So that leaves "Change your Mind and Keep the Change", maybe? Which I can't seem to dig up).

I recall trying the technique (long ago) and it was effective.

Interesting observations, strawbert.

I'll keep trying to dig up the book.

Another aspect of this state I would like to experience again is the sensory experience. Sound, touch, taste are dramatically enhanced. I feel like I receive 1000% more information from my senses.

So, the book you want to find is "Change Your Mind-And Keep the Change : Advanced NLP Submodalities Interventions"
by Connirae Andreas & Steve Andreas.

I'd like to find it myself. (I'm _not_ buying another copy of this book!)

Anyway, the chapter in question is called "Accessing Kinesthetic States". Basically, the procedure involves remembering the _sequence_ of feelings you get after doing whatever mind-altering substance. The feelings need to be in rich, submodality detail. For example, "where in your body do you get this feeling?" "Does it have a temperature?" "pressure?" "constant or pulsating/throbbing" etc etc.

Sequence of getting these sensations seems to make a big difference; start at the beginning (go back to when you were getting stoned. What was the first feeling you noticed?") and from there you simply remember and imagine having that sensation now. Then notice the next sensation, and so on. Typically, if it doesn't work, it's that you missed some subtle sensation, or went out of order.

Once you've recreated it to your satisfaction, you can create what they called "designer" states. "What happens if you make that warm feeling a little warmer? a lot warmer?" ie, you can see which submodalities make what difference in the state.

Hope this helps.
