I would say just practice trying to stay in photofocus for now.
When I was first starting, I would drift back into hard focusing on the words I guess out of habit. I think the more you practice seeing the blip page and maintaining the photofocus state, the easier it will become. After some practice, I can now maintain the blip page although the size does change as I stay in the state.
I used the cocktail weenie trick to get into photofocus then tried to move my gaze down to a book in front of me. It took some practice but I eventually got there....
