Hey, I'm new to photoreading and I keep trying and trying to do it, but everytime I get relaxed, see the "blip" page, I lose the focus and start concentrating on the words again. It's like I can't concentrate on what I'm doing, those damn words jump up in my face. And when sometimes I do make it, I turn the page and woops, I lost the blip page instead. Argh, this is frustrating, does anyone have any advice on how to keep your mind on photoreading and not anything else?

Have you got the book or the course?

I would suggest photoreading three books without thinking of the actual photoreading. Don't try too hard, just flip through the pages while looking through the book, maybe pretending to be looking at the floor behind the book, and allow yourself to think about anything and everything except what you think you 'should' be thinking about.

Just allow it to be whatever it is.

Expecting specific results (from hearing testimonials or seeing infomercials) seems to be a common obstacle for beginners (I'm a beginner myself, so I am speaking from direct and immediate experience!!!)

Ideally say the chant. It occupies the conscious mind whilst keeping you in photofocus. To let it wonder off in mind chatter will also remove you from the ideal state.

I've got the book, can't possibly afford the course!

Well, the whole issue is that I must have some sort of concentration problem, no matter what, my mind wanders off while PR and I start thinking about daily things when I should be focused. I think I might be expecting too much...

And the whole chant thing, am I supposed to sit and do a whole "Humm.....humm..." thing? or should I only think it?

And another question I've been wondering about, the whole blip page thing, are you supposed to actually *see* the blip page all the time, or is it only something to make you focus on something else than the words?

/thank you for your answers!

I'm lucky enough to have naturally poor focus, so the words never bother me once the glasses come off. I *can* regular-read without my glasses on, so PhotoReading is not a problem.

One thing I did have problems with, at first, was books with pictures. It's hard not to SEE a picture and consciously process it. I imagine it must be similier to the problems faced with people of 20/20 vision. The trick that worked most of the time was turning the book upside-down.

The blip page tells you, you are in photofocus, the steady rhythm of page turning and the chant keep you in the state. The key words in the chant are 'relax'. Saying it gives you the steady pace for page turning and and helps maintain the blip page.

If you have trouble with the blip page let it go just use the soft gaze with imaginary X technique. This works just as well and causes less stress for beginners than trying to hold the blip page. The blip page comes naturally when you just allow your field of vison to open up.

As stated in the book, you should try chanting to keep focused in a relaxed learning state...

The blip page is a lot like photoreading...It's so easy to do when you get it; but hard to un-learn hard focus. If you have problems you should really "NOT TRY." It's pretty natural for me.

Also, I have one question if anyone can answer it. During my blip, I tend to expand it to nearly cover most of the text, and words totally run over each other. Am I still getting the information? Is the X method any less effective?

I would say just practice trying to stay in photofocus for now.

When I was first starting, I would drift back into hard focusing on the words I guess out of habit. I think the more you practice seeing the blip page and maintaining the photofocus state, the easier it will become. After some practice, I can now maintain the blip page although the size does change as I stay in the state.

I used the cocktail weenie trick to get into photofocus then tried to move my gaze down to a book in front of me. It took some practice but I eventually got there....

Good luck...
