In the Photoreading step, one tries to keep a steady state w/ relaxed alertness, breath appropriately, do rhythmic page turning , & chant in one's conscious mind. Is their an analog/equivelent for superreading/dipping

I'm sure AlexK will give the correct answer.

There is no chanting. You do keep is smooth, and maintain the mental state of relaxed, alert, curious, noticing. And don't forget the smile... always smile.

Use the tangerine technique. Allow your vision to open up, put a slight smile on your dial(face) and use superreading and dipping, rhythmic perusal or skittering.

Superreading you smoothly run your eyes down the center of the page roughly 2 to 10 seconds per page; this get's slowed down when you dip to more or less your regular reading. Read a phrase, Sentance, or paragraph then quickly move on, back to the 2 to 10 sec per page.

Rhythmic Perusal explained briefly on page 61. Read first sentance in each paragraph, Look for words and phrases that relate, notice phrases, read for meaning, scan across the tops of words. Is best to apply whenever you are reading anything (even if you haven't photoread it because it's too short).

In activation, skittering is a pattern you devise, and is a bit of a modification of rhythmic perusal. Techniques here could be backward S scan over each paragraph, spiral starting in the middle or edge, (either way) of a page or paragraph and circling over the page or paragraph. Zig zag, S scan from the bottom up. Even superreading from the bottom up. This is a pattern you devise, again, you look for phrases, read for meaning. Both skittering and rhythmic perusal take a little longer than superreading per page. So you're looking at 4 to 15 seconds per page and you also dip... When you find something meaningful you go in for a closer look. Again be sure to move on quickly when you have read a sentance or paragraph.

One way to help you get into pace is to set a timer... while you have a specific set time limit you will maintain your focus on activation. By keeping the activation pass overly fairly short (20 to 30 minutes) you can maintain your focus. If you make it too long you get side tracked. After a few activation passes with a timer you find yourself more focused with activation as a whole.

I find that trying to smile when I read is just bothersome and too much of an effort. Also, the tangerine only succeeds in distracting me from the text. I don't see how it "opens" or "widens" the visual field. Maybe mine is already good enough...

A smile lightens the heart and relaxes the body. It creates a postive outlook towards the project at hand. You certainly don't have to concentrate on keeping it there. It just helps relax you.

The same with the tangerine, it helps trigger the mind focus, you don't really keep your attention there only become aware of the top back part of your head if you find you have concentration difficulty.

The widening of your vision isn't attributed to the tangerine... it is part of the steps that you put in place yourself; a relaxed but focused state of mind. Just soften your gaze slightly, be relaxed and allow yourself to see groups of word rather than just one word at a time. Indeed, tsossczb, perhaps your field of vision is wide enough and you know when you are getting satisfactory results from photoreading.

Damn Pete, you didn't have to delete the whole thing. Were all mature here (or supposed to be), you don't need to treat this like an AOL chat room.
