Skittering is allowing your eyes to 'read' groups of words on the page. It is something that people, who feel that superreading isn't giving them cues when to dip, another technique of quickly going over the pages pulling out information.

Skittering is 'permission to dip more freely'.

Rather than the straight down pull down the middle of the page method of superreading. Skittering is a pattern you can devise for yourself. A suggested starting point is to 'read the first sentence' of each paragraph and notice groups of words that relate/explain/elaborate that paragraph.

Personally I find that some books superreading works great others need skittering, I have even used both methods within the pages of a single book. When I skitter, I personally don't read the first sentence of each paragraph I do read a sentence or two on the page then do a backward S scan over the page. As such skittering becomes a technique you develop for yourself. So you could be scanning the page in a circular motion, zig zag or wave. In all it's just a way to give yourself permission to dip more freely than the superread down the middle of the page. At the end of the day it still leaves speed reading in the dust.

Hi, I have a quick question about super-reading and dipping. When feeling a hunch to dip at a certain point, is there an ideal way to do so? Would we dip right on the spot only, or can we go backwards and dip into areas of interest? I don't know if this would disturb any sense of rhythm or relaxation.

Follow your hunch. If it says go back a couple of pages go back if it says skip the chapter skip it. You can always check in with it again on the next activation pass. However you must follow your hunches otherwise you're missing the point.
