whitehair; about a month ago august 28,2003 i replied to your previous post "nothing seems to work" let me repeat what was my reply to your post. here is my reply from last month: "whitehair; what was your purpose? what did you want to learn from the material you were photoreading? tell us what your purpose was for photoreading the material and what you were hoping to get from the material. tell us the keywords you wrote down from the material and the questions you had for your keywords.let us know what you were looking for when you were superreading and dipping". you did not answer my questions. A month later you come back complaining how nothing is working and Alexk gives you tremendous advice.she tells you about how important it is to write questions from your trigger words and Iam2 gives you great advice about being really clear about what your purpose is. Alexk and Iam2 are saying some of the things i said last month which you chose not to respond to.Once again tell us exactly what your trigger words were and tell us the questions you wrote down for those trigger words and tell us the answers you found for those questions when you were superreading and dipping and tell us what your purpose was for the material you were studying. The photoreading forum is here to help people and i would say Alexk is a model photoreader and Iam2 is a model photoreader as well and you would be wise to listen to them. They are here to help you and provide some insights and useful advice. they are not here to activate your material for you. That is your responsibility. I would love to hear you tell us exactly what your trigger words were and what questions you made for those trigger words not just i did my trigger words and looked for the answers. The photoreading whole mind system works there is no doubt about that. A year from now it will be the same what is your purpose? what are your trigger words? what are the questions you crafted for your trigger words? 5,10,15 years it will probably be same. I look forward to you responding to this post. sincerely, photoread4me.

Whitehair, Seeing you have trouble with activation I am really more interested in whether you superread and dip or skitter for activation.

How long is each your activation passes.

To me your purpose is a bit vague and out there because it is important to you you also need a way of 'measuring' if you've achieved it. On the whole the book will tell you many ways to learn and remember not all of it is important to you so you want to activate the book quickly to find the information that is valuable.

I suggest you try rephrasing your purpose. 'To find information that I can put into immediate use to learn and remember what I studied better.'

On trigger words for mind maps. Since you are learning to use mind maps. Write your trigger words on a piece of paper at random. After photoreading link words with coloured pens that you can relate to similar questions. Write the questions along the lines. Since this is scrap paper you can draw as freely as you want. It's only going to be around as long as you want it for activating. When activating your trigger words may or may not wind up on your core mind map. Some of them may not even be used as starter questions since they are starting points to being an active reader.

Alex

would the bold terms in my biology text book be good key words or should I still look through the chapter for them?
p.s. I will write about activating later when I have more time

Yes, If it's in the book it counts as a trigger word.

Words, in bold. italics, underlined etc are all words that the author considers important so bu all means use them as trigger words.

Purpose: Learn how to make mind maps and how to study efficiently so I can remember things I study longer.

Questions:
1. Steps to mind mapping
2. When Should I study?
3. How should I study?
4. When Should I take breaks?
5. When should I mind map?

30min speed reading and dipping
30min Mind mapping

I felt as though I got what I needed out of this book from the mind mapping but I didn't feel like I got anything from the super reading and dipping.

How would you photoread a book that you worked through doing exercises like The einstien factor for example.

thank you for all your help
yours truly
Brian

You felt like you got what you needed from the book?

Yet felt Like you didn't get anything from the superreading and dipping?

If superreading and dipping didn't work for you how did you manage to get what you felt you needed from the book?

If you don't like superreading and dipping use skittering. The point is you did something to get the information you needed from the book. What was it? How did you go about mind mapping the book?

I have read this book about 3 weeks ago with the elementary method of reading so this was more of a review than anything maybe a bit of a confidence booster but when I tried to super read I felt like alot fo the information wasn't relevant which it wasn't but I never knew when to dip I tried to go by feelings and sometimes it worked and sometime the stuff I dipped into had no relevance. With skittering I never understood it it seemed to me that with skittering I might as well learn to speed read because it would be about as fast but I never understood skittering so I'm not sure of the truth to that
