The brainwave generator is a entrainment device whereas the paraliminal is a tool for guiding the thinking mind into action.
You could use the brainwave generator and may or may not find a setting that helps you to remember better.
The paraliminal 'tells' your mind to remember better.
People will often combine the two for better results. In my view the paraliminals work well well on their own and tools like the brainwave generator work a whole lot better with a paraliminal.
